NEW! -- Cooling System Pressure Tester (CSPT)

This is a tool I have been intending to make for a while but never got around to doing...until now. For many years, we have been testing the integrity of water seal installation with a pressure gauge fixture. It was just a rough-cut aluminum plate but did the job just fine despite being homely. Great tool to verify your freshly built engine is assembled properly at least in the article of being air/water tight. After assembly, we plug up all the cooling system openings, mount the CSPT (Cooling System Pressure Tester) fixture, pump up the pressure to 20 PSI or so and leave it to sit overnight. Major leaks you can find right away by following the hiss of escaping air with a stethoscope. Minor leakage over time is more tricky with just air pressure, but you can also fill the cooling system with water or coolant, pressurize it with air, and the leak will be obvious by the puddle that develops. Operational coolant pressure is typically 0.9 BAR or about 13 PSI. We generally test the engines at 20 PSI for 12+ hours, but even a couple hours is fine.

The CSPT comes assembled, with the high quality brass valve, pressure gauge and gasket installed. Fasteners are included for bolting the tool to the engine. Fits all rotary engine from 1974 to present. Plugs for the rest of the cooling system are not included (at least we don't plan to include them at this point, but that may change) but plugs are easy to make for yourself. The gauge in the picture is not necessarily the exact one we will include in the kit. I have 130 gauges on-order right now that I plan to use, which are 0-30 PSI instead of 0-60 PSI. No big deal either way. I just think with the 0-30 PSI gauge, the resolution is better and it is less likely that someone will overpressurize the cooling system.

Price is TBD, but probably under $70.

The production gauges showed up today, so I hope to have these ready to ship by the end of the week or next Monday at the latest.

What a great tool. I plan on building a couple engines a couple of years from now, this is yet another piece to put on my "must-buy" list.

Here are new pictures of the tester with the production gauge. I think the 0-30 range offers better resolution and avoids the temptation to overpressurize the cooling system just because the gauge reads that high. The final picture shows how this premium valve stem is designed to be easily disassembled for adding water, if you want to do a wet-test.

I will be getting these ready to sell today, then listing them on the web site shortly.

It will be nice if you add a video in your video section on how properly use/read/install such a useful tool. Congrats in such a great job !!!!

Great tool. However I would use this with out the water pump installed. If this test simulates a reverse pressure test then it could potentially damage the waterpump mechanical seal.

Just a thought....

Note: a character named Joshshift came in here and polluted several threads. He has been dealt with and most of his garbage has been deleted. However, I wanted to preserve the following gem to demonstrate exactly how deceitful this guy is:

Well, well, look what we have here. "Joshshift" claims in various threads to work for Atkins or having formerly worked for Atkins.
