Nissan VG30DE in FC

Finally got my new digital camera and took some shots of my swap. Engine is up and running just needs some tuning on the dyno.

Nice, I considered this swap. Tell us, HOW DOES IT RUN? I would love to see some video of this car running. It has to sound sweet. Any hopes of a turbo on there soon? How fast is it N/A?

So did I, and I still think it's a bad idea But hell, the engine will probably be loads happier in an FC than some porkload Z32.

So: Details! How do it run?

It runs and it sounds alot different. It needs the Haltech fine tuned and then I'll see how it works on the track. this is a dedicated race car not a street car. no chance of a turbo, but I guess it could be done. I know everyone loves the V8( I do to), but an LS1 just was not in the budget. This engine makes similair power to a moded TII and is cheap from wrecks or JDM. I know why not just use the TII(I have). Local engine builders have been killing me for years and the real pro builders just cost to much. Spent enough money on engine building last year to buy 2 LS1 engine and trans combos. We'll see how long this setup lasts.

Nice looking swap Tim, I have thought about this as soon as I saw the kit from grannys. Is that who you used, or did you do a custom install? And you have go to tell me the weights as soon as you can

I built my own motor and trans mounts. allows you to position engine lower and farther back than the granny's kit. very easy only took a half day for both to fabricate. don't know or care about the weight(plus I have no way to weigh it anyway). hanging on the hoist it felt heavier but not by much. Trans is quite a bit heavier, closer in size and weight to a turboII trans. car has the same ride height as it did before the swap so it can't be too much more. I'll see how it handles and this will give me a better idea.

That's an interesting setup. I'm a long time Nissan fan myself, so I always like seeing a Vxxxx stuffed in somethig.

Should be plenty of power to be a fun car, for sure.

Do you mean "Is there a USDM VG30DETT" or "Is it possible to get a JDM VG30DETT shipped over?" The answer to both is yes.

VG30DE is a DOHC(Dual OverHead Cam), 3.0liter, V6, Iron block and aluminum heads, with electronic fuel injection. the tt is the twin turbo and the DET is a single turbo(JDM only I believe). all are available on the used engine market. A VQ series engine is all aluminum and the V8 is a VQ45. I have seen these recently at a few junkyards but only came with an automatic, not sure if any nissan trans will bolt on. My car is a dedicated track car that runs in the NASA western endurance race series, 3 hour enduros mostly. First race for the combo is sept 20th at Sears Point(Infineon for you NASCAR fans). test session at willow springs last month was very good and the car handles as good as ever, but now it has some torque to get out of the corners. I have some other pics but they are not very clear, sorry.

The 4.0l engine in the xterra is aweseme. 264hp, 284ftlbs torque. I'd put my money on that engine in an FC it's so sweet. It'd be worth running a hood cowl if it didn't fit

You seem a bit confused by Nissan engine codes. The first two letters are a family code (ie, VG). The next two numbers are (obviously) displacement. The letters following denote engine specifications: D=DOHC, E=EFI, TT=twin turbo. The VQ family engine is a V6. Nissan's V8's in the past were VH's (ie, VH45) and recently, VK. A VQ45 would signify a 4.5L V6.

You are correct that the VQ is all-aluminum. So are the VH's and VK's.

lots of conflicting ratings high number is 240hp(likely flywheel hp) and I have seen 220hp also. I measured 200hp at the wheels on a Mustang dyno(not the most accurate). It has a different powerband from the wild street port 13b I had before. this engine pulls strong from all rpm's and really kicks at about 5000rpm. I will see how it races this weekend at Sear Point, 3 hour enduro will show any problems.

lighting is bad under the cylinder heads and the mount was painted black. looks like a tube with two flat plates welded to each end. the guy with the northstar/uz engine swap had a good 3d rendering that looked just like the ones I built.
