Seems like a ton of threads in this section of the forum get closed when a little heat is turned up..... kind of a pisser. I realize it can get a little nasty at times... but nothing that can't be shaken off and laughed about a little.

Didn't really enjoy reading this post:
"I am currently in discussions with the forum staff on the subject of deleting the Other Engine Conversions sub-forum" - Evil Aviator

Probably some of the smartest guys on this forum may not have a place to "talk" if this goes thru. This is supposed to be a place where people can express themselves even if people differ in their ideals/beliefs of what makes a car go fast. The rivalry is only natural.

Time to put a $20-30K 20B ticking time bomb in my car.... at least it sounds good for the few months it is running ..... Boom!

.....then I can rebuild it again... blow an apex seal... once again.... then lose a coolant seal.... and ignorantly again... then get a bad batch of gas and shatter an apex seal and trash my housings...... and claim the rotary as a reliable engine when modified beyond stock.

................because it is stupid to put anything other than a rotary into any RX-7. N/A rotaries are reliable, I completely agree; however turbo rotary setups are ticking time bombs for 90% of their owners and everyone should be able to clearly see this.

Even when I had a rotary in my car I would be the first person to tell you it wasn't going to last long. I also never pitched a hissy fit over V8 cars. I just don't understand how some of these people can't see reason. When I had a rotary it was VERY easy to say, yes your V8 will make as much or more power than my rotary and outlast it, but its not for me, there is nothing wrong with that. People go to school all the time to become teachers even though the pay is crap, just because they like what they are doing.

Well, the addition of another moderator will probably help. The subforum's not going anywhere.

I think Evil was just sick of dealing with the bullshit that pops up now and then. Lots of people wander in here looking for a fight, and they know exactly which buttons to push to get it.

Yeah, if you have any problems in a thread, PM me and I'll look into it.

I try to read all of the threads going on, but sometimes one will slip through. I'd rather delete an offending post than delete a thread.

To answer the question, the number of threads that are closed will depend on how well the users of this forum can conduct themselves. In other words, it all depends on you guys.

Would you rather that the moderator closes the thread prior to the point that major problems develop, or lets the thread continue and then issues warnings and/or bans everybody who participated in the thread?

While some threads are just closed, deleted, or edited to keep order, we have had some very serious problems in this forum which were nothing to laugh at, and were criminal in nature. I would like to remind everybody that physical threats over the internet may land the offender in jail if the victim presses charges, and/or may result in the offender losing his/her ISP account.

That is only half the problem. The other half of the problem comes about when the legitimate users of this forum fight among themselves about petty things such as the LS1 vs. LT1, weights, etc. Sorry, but you can't totally blame the flames on the piston bashers.

Some of my fellow moderators have accused me of not being tough enough in my moderation. Even so, this small sub-forum is the cause of 42% of the warnings given so far on this entire web site in 2005. Since I prefer to close threads, delete posts, and use PM rather than issuing warnings, I think the severity of the problem can be seen in those statistics. I am hoping that my public announcement of this problem and the addition of a new moderator will help set a better tone for the future of this sub-forum. However, the bottom line is that the users of this sub-forum will have the largest impact on its character.

Keep it up Evil. I've got no problems with how things have been run here. My only complaints are the people who show up(from both sides) looking for fights. Same thing happens on nicoclub.com(The nissan/infiniti group I belong to) though there it's not as big.

Everywhere you go there will always be people looking for a fight.

there can always be discussion that doesnt turn into wars.
the thing is that people tend to make up stuff (1860rwhp in a 20b) so that tends to infuriate other members.
just keep it real
BTW LT1-10AE is the new moderator for this section, i hope that improves things around here, congrats LT1

So far, things have been quiet and good threads going without too much trouble.

Hmm...this might be a long shot, but why not start sub-forums?
I'm SURE "Other Engine Conversions" can easily support a "V8" subforum...

This might or might not cut down on the wars?

I've got a feeling that no matter where the V8 owners post, the trolls will follow. This seem to be running pretty smooth as of late.

Agreed, but it's not like we're blameless.

Knock on wood.

maybe the v8 forum is a great idea.
that wouldnt mix up the different setups, and if everyone is in the v8 forum to talk about v8, i dont think there will be any more wars,
anyways, everything has been pretty calm lately

That might be true, but at least there is NO excuse to be flaming in a V8 subsection.

Right now, since it's just a general "other engine", people are always going to argue "well, V8's are stupid and I think this other engine is better..."

With a specific V8 sub-section, you can't go posting **** like that at all.

If you look at the EMS subsections, you almost never see flaming now.
You still see Haltech vs. Microtech vs. Wolf3D vs. Electromotive in other sections, but you don't see that **** in the EMS subsections.
You just don't see "Microtech is better" posts in the Haltech section and vice versa.

We get a lot of people arguing about which V8 is the best, so that wouldn't help much, unfortunately.

I am hoping that this forum will work out better now that we have banned some people and gained another moderator.

I feel it is a non-issue if everyone obeys the first forum rule in the sticky above:

"1. NO V8 (or other swap) bashing will be allowed. Your post will be deleted without warning. The number of posts just to start an argument are among the highest in this sub-forum compared to others. It will no longer be tolerated."

As long as the swap guys are smart, simply clicking on the Report Post button will take care of the problem, per subforum rules. I know myself that it is alot easier to hit the reply button than to think smart, but now I know better.

Hey, if the V8 guys are going to beat up on each other, I got nothing against that.
