got an '86 rx-7 with an N/A 13B. swap?
CAR: 1986 RX-7 coupe N/A
okay I am new to the mazda seen. don't know crap about 'em so I am doing a little homework. I have never owned a turbo car before but have seen a lot of engine bay pics. as far as I can tell ( and feel when driving), there is no turbo on this thing.
so I have decided I want to go turbo. should I build this engine for it or just swap in another. got some other probably simple questions too:
1: is the N/A frame and all, the same as the turbo model? (hp rating that it can handle)
2: FD motors, will those "bolt right up" to an FC? any better options for swap ( if swap > built, turbo kit)
I am trying to not spend my life insurance here. I'm thinking if I do the work myself I want a max 1800 budget for the engine/turbo kit. I know I can find an old turbo 2 motor from a 1990 I think for 800 around here.
I come from the Subaru world ('00 Impreza RS soon to be STI swapped). those cars are like legos, its mix and match engines and trannies and parts. Are the FC and FD like that? anything interchangable? speak in basic mechanical knowledge please as I have no idea on a lot of things. just turned 21 and am starting playing with cars, learning process. help a complete newbie out!
thanks guys!

The FD engine (13BREW) will not bolt in. You need custom fabbed engine mounts, and you'll have to do a ton of other miscellaneous fabrication. The TII will fit right in. If you want to install a TII drivetrain, you can find the shopping list in the 2nd gen archives. Basically, it's engine, transmission, driveshaft, differential, halfshafts, ECU, and wiring harness. Hood also, if you don't plan to relocate the intercooler. The NA transmission is too weak to support any more torque than stock.

well, turbo II swap it is! (seems building an N/A turbo is rediculously hard and expensive. Thats why I like subarus, lego cars. but an RX-7 is an RX-7 so let the work begin!)

Vermont isn't exactly the best place for these old FC's. there are a lot of dirt roads and the paved ones aren't that great either where I am. I was looking for an FC for a long time, I was surprised when one showed up at a local dealership for sale. payed 1500 for it, I have it in storage for the winter. needs a dent pulled out, some bondo smoothed and some paint. also the interior center console is in peices so need a new one.
I have however decided to keep it N/A. might change to a turbo 2 tranny if it works. I am using it for a drift car hopefully but might just tune N/A. I don't know anything about a rotary engine or how it works but will only be doing things like intake, porting, cam work, and engine tuning (if all is applicable). all I need is around 200-250hp. first I have to learn how to drift a standard though. I'm a newbie to that aspect so maybe my tranny in it now will just fall out during practice.lol. I am going to need to do some major reinforcement on the car to keep it together for drifting though. I don't see anyone else drifting FC's though so I'll be special.

richme4life7886- I'm not understanding your post. can you carify? do you mean you got a JDM model engine with transmission online for 950 shipped? This is obviously a USDM model rx-7, would JDM engine and tranny fit right since its left hand drive and not right hand drive???
