Just to verify the B2000 housing will bolt right on and give me a couple inches less.

It will move the shifter forward about 5 or 6 inches from the RX7 location. I was able to mount a 12A using a modified RX7 front mount and the stock Midget chassis locations. It put the shifter pretty damn close to the middle of the stock hole.

I might even have the header I made for the car if you need one. The engine sat nice and low in the chassis and I made an oil pan for it as well, I don't think I have that anymore. Now that I'm thinking about it, it was closer to ten years ago... crap I'm getting old.

A couple junk yards here have two wheel drive B2000 / B2200 gearboxes. The tailshafts look like they would give at most a 1/4 of an inch. Is there a casting number? These are marked '84 and '85.

I'm still not having success finding one of these shorter tail shafts. Anyone know where to look?

I finally found the right tailshaft. The B2000 using the F series engine has the closer positioned shifter ('80-'84).

What if it needs to be longer????

Not every swap has the same requirements. I needed to move the shifter BACK exactly six inches for my German RX-7, and the attached photo shows how I did it. I took six inches of a scrap shifter rod and welded it to my 83 RX-7 shifter rod, then made a bracket to move the shifter back six inches. Used a piece of aluminum tubing to lengthen the shifter rod tube. This was a low mileage (20k) trans I removed from a wreck back in the 1980s, works great.

More details are shown on my Cardomain page.

stilettoman wow! thanks for posting this. I was just going to ask about how to extend the shifter back. I'm doing a AT to MT swap in my JC Cosmo and I would like to move the shifter about 3 ~ 3.5 inches back. This really gives me a good idea on how to do it. I used a S5 FC transmission and had to cut a little of trans tunnel.

Hate to hijack the thread but does anyone know where I can get a B2000 shifter? I have a tanny with the tail housing already swapped out but I'm having trouble finding a shift level that fit.
