Finished tacking the manifold together and threw it on the engine with the turbo just to see it...now I will drop the engine back in the car and make sure everything fits properly before I weld all the seams together...pics speak for words

Cheers.

Got the engine in the car again to check manifold fitment, clears everything perfectly. The Downpipe area is tight for 4"...might need to cut or hammer a lip in the engine bay to get it through. Now just need to pull things out again and weld the manifold shut.

On another note, I placed the Alternator as in the pictures and realized I could make a rod so that its mounted like that instead of the other way...only thing I will have to do is make a tensioner wheel so the belt clears the base for the A/C tensioner.

Cheers

Chris

p.s. started to get excited when I saw the turbo in there...lol

I am using the Renesis Front cover on the BRE engine.

Which specific standalone ECU if you would be so kind?

The goal is to end up using a Haltech Sprint RE but I might start with one of the Microtechs I have around here just to get it up and running before spending on the Haltech.

Exhaust looks pretty good. I assume you took some 90 degree premade bends and cut them to size? How did you cut them? Grinder? I'm currently also fabricating a header, but it's tricky getting the bends cut precicely right. I'm using a much thinner gauge as you so I'll need to get the gaps as small as possible if I want to get it welded nicely.

I used 2" Schedule 10 304 SS pipe both straight and 90Deg bends. I cut everything using an industrial bandsaw I have at the shop for cutting Solid Bar to be used in the CNC machines. If you are using thinner gauge I would recommend cutting things a bit longer (approx 1/8") and then sanding them to fit with a large band sander...I couldn't do that because of the thicker gauge.

Cheers!

Had to modify the piece I had already "fabbed" once I fit it in the car again to make sure everything fit properly. All the DP should need now is a straight shot into the existing exhaust and full welding...

Cheers

Oh my, I did not realize how much space that 4" downpipe will take up..
You have any scraps I can have or borrow for visual placements?

I like them both...they are very different cars. The handling is great on both but one is a minimalist 2 seater with 0 compromises as a sport car. The other has amenities and space. If I were going to have only one car it would be RX-8, GPS, heated seats, everything's electric, 4 seats, traction/stability control, etc etc etc make for a very nice daily driver in comparison. I already have the RX-8, like the amenities and its only about 200-250lb heavier than an FD so it still goes great with a rotary. I also intend to drive it all the time and living in MN its the better option at least for me.

Cheers

Don't forget your turbo exits to 5" on the hot side so you will need a reducer.

Nice looking work! This is wild!
I hope to learn to weld in the near future, it looks awesome being able to make your own exhaust manifold. Not to mention the $$ savings.

Here's something you might need for #9 on your list. Just make sure to double check the dimensions.

Oh wow, thanks Man! I was going to have to draw those to be able to program them, Now I can just work on CAM side of things...

I recognized the oil pedestal one and the other ones seems like its the bolt pattern from the BRE mani with a round hole for my throttle...am I correct?

Thanks a million!
