new toy for me!
So to motivate myself and get tips from you experienced old schoolers. Im going to post up pics of my new to me 72 Rx2. Picked up the car from Chad (fire85gslse). Brought it home to Orlando, and had people asking me to buy it before i even dropped it off at my house. lol...
well heres some pics. (far from glory pics, just shots showing the work it needs)

has just about everything there body wise (Only missing vents nest to rear windows), also has a nice true dual exhaust from the motor back. and everything under the hood seems to be in pretty good shape. it was full of pine needles and spider webs, but i removed the air cleaner afetr cleaning out the engine bay. and the carb looked damn near new looking down the venturis... i think i can get it running as is. we'll see. but i still need to locate a driveshaft and sort out what im going to do about a master cylinder to drive it.
the body is in decent condition for sitting under a tree for years. i spent a while scraping off the tree sapp on the windows. i smelled like pancake syrup for a while after that, lol. and i did some sanding/grinding on the right rear quarter panel. looks as if someone tried replacing the panel before. with a piece of metal that was to thin. and did not even come close to lining it up correctly. also it was brazed in, not very good either. so it will have to be cut out and done again. but first i have to find a new piece to weld in, unless one of you guys wanna cut your car up and send me a piece...

not sure yet. goal right now is to get it driving. new oil, gas, and plugs should get it running (hopefully). and then to drive it i just need a driveshaft and a brakemaster cylinder. and keep stripping the noticable bad metal down and fixing the rust.
it will evevtually be stripped down completely and re-done. but i have to first decide what my intentions are for the car.
are there any other compatible driveshafts that will fit? like an rx3, 1st gen rx7, ect?

Are good RX2's that hard to find in your part of the world?
Thats one big challenge you have on your hands. Surely it would make economical sense to locate a better RX-2 before sinking too much $$$ into that one?
Thats just my 2 cents you probably have a big budget.

well, no i dont have a big budget at all. but i always do all my own work wich saves a lot of money. i search for good deals constantly to further cut the price down. and old school rotarys around here are over priced. Orlando has a huge rotary fan base compared to most areas. wich drives the prices up. Nothing wrong with bringing a car back to life...

In the US most of the early old school rotaries are on the west coast. In the east coast you can find them but its harder and usually there more rust prone in the east coast because of a variety of reasons.

And when you can just trade out things with each other then thats even better. Heck the full RB exhaust system was worth a good bit.
I think I have some rear window vents. As for a driveshaft I was told most old school guys would ditch the 2 pc shafts and get a custom 1 pc. Did you make it home with the extra window glass without breaking one?
The blue parts rx2 should be sold so really just down to the yellow one now.
And why do all the 4 doors over seas look awesome? Notice the dual exhaust in the rear middle of the rx2.

Im all about the barter system.
yeah, everything made it back fine. i dont know how i was still awake though. was something like 38 hours until i got to bed... then only slept for 6 and did another 24 hour stretch. lol, man. im tired just thinking about it again.
but the long process begins now. the only real hard part will be locating some good body panels for this car. hard, but not impossible...

Hey, at least with this one you can see the work thats needed. A lot of old rotaries with good paint jobs are hiding very crappy repairs.
It looks like a good base to start with, does the car run??

I may be able to help out with strange body sections. My old IMSA RS car is going on the rack to get clipped and some stuff above waist line is usable. You might be able to use little sections here and there. The car spent about 20 years as a race car so not too much low stuff is straight, and the floors have been cut out,...and the wheel arches were cut for flares...
You get the idea. PM me and get me some pictures with areas you think you need marked and I'll see what I can help with.
