FL My 12a rotary starlet - NOW 13b Turbo2

Hey guys, I just got my starlet back with a 12a in her now and would like to share it with you all.

Also I would like to thanks all those that have helped me so far with all the questions I have asked before as well with all the parts that I have bought on the forum .

Anyways here is a vid and couple of pictures of her.

PS: This thing is evil and fast now!!

EDIT: Can anyone tell me whats the click click click sound in the video that looks to be coming from passenger's side ??

Any other inputs appreciated too.

I say do a direct fire, add an aftermarket tach, and use the nikki carb as a door stopper. sounds like you have an exhaust leak

^ Yeah, what Wacky said. Loose the Nikki and put a Weber 48IDA carb and intake on. Put an Msd and wire it for direct/wastespark on the leading and leave the trailing stock. Just by doing the above you will pick up over 20+hp. Noise is definetly an exhaust leak. What is your header/exhaust setup like? And you're going to have to lose those skinny rear tires or you will just smoke tires all day long. Nice car BTW.

Thank you for your input, right now I have a Racing Beat header collected 2 into 1, runs a straigth pipe and then attached to that muffler you saw on the vid :P.

So I only need 1 MSD 6a box to do the direct/wastespark you are talking about ?

The rear skinnies are definitely going out

Yeah, run the Msd box on the leading direct fire/wastespark as outlined with these instructions- http://www.smbaker.com/rail/msd6a.html

I would use a MSD 6al, that way one day down the road when you have enough money you can buy another 6al and wire it thru the distributer on the trailing and then you can use the rev limiter function- you cannot do this with just one box.

Make sure you ditch that nikki carb though, and don't even bother with a sterling because they don't flow enough unless all you are going to run is a stock port. Search my thread- Project bridgeport 12a, and that will give you many ideas.

Good luck and have fun.

Well I went to the track last night just for the hell of it :lol....My best time was 17.4seg at 1/4mile spinning 1st, 2nd all the way.

I fixed the exahust leak just like wackyracer and jay said. I made the passes with the 12' skinnies and the stock rear end

The last pass was the best one and I also broke the alternator belt .

Next time I visit the track if I dont change the rear end I will make sure to use bigger wheels/tires

Agreed on the having fun part .

The track doesnt have the sensors to measure the mph . Just 60ft, Reaction time and 1/4mile time.

I should get down to 15 with this engine as is with good tires on the back, what do you think Jay?

thanks man, the car's stock weight is around 1629lbs, thats with the stock engine, bumpers and everything.

I would say that the car is like 1850lbs with the 12a installed and me also inside the car(assuming that the 12a is heavier than the original stock 2k engine), but thats just me guessing I will weight it to get the real numbers!

Little update guys:

Went to the dyno today to test her and I got 101whp and 46 torque lol. I think these numbers are fine for a stockport 12a with a lil exhaust porting?, we didnt plug the A/F sensor so I still dont know what mixture I am running with

I am a little confused tho because the engine kept pulling past the 10kRPM mark? wtf? we were taking the signal out of the T2 plug wire, dont know if the readings were accurate ?

Anyways here is a vid of the last run when I made 101whp, maybe I can get more if I tune the fuel pressure and the carb a lil more ?

All inputs and thoughts appreciated!!

From listening to the vid, the tach signal is incorrect. It showed that you went past 11k and the engine sounded like it may have went 8000rpm's or so. Do you have a tach inside the car? You should be making more than 100hp. Ditch that Nikki and get a Weber 48IDA and manifold and you will pick up around 30+ hp just by doing that. And you will be able to tune the carb. With the stock carb, you are very limited.

Thats what I thought about the signal reading....I just couldnt believe it. I dont have a tach inside the car so next time I visit the dyno we will have to plug that sensor somewhere else to get an accurate reading.

I just bought a 48 IDA ....will have to wait now to get some funds to buy the manifold and the jets to install it on my engine .

Thanks for your input Jay.

No problem. Before you do anything else, get a tach installed in your car.

Looks good. Now get that manifold and tach. Look in the for sale section and you might get lucky with a used manifold. If not Racing beat and Mazdatrix sell them new.
