motor build for 13b-914, opinions wanted
I inherited a 13b, 6-port motor and am starting to plan a 914 swap. I originally wanted to rebuild the motor myself, but I'm not yet sure. I haven't opened it yet, but it is dirty. Really dirty. The intake ports are gross. Im not sure the housing can be re-used.
So I'm thinking of stripping it down and sending it to get built properly, with whatever new parts are needed.
The motor is going to be carburated, mated to the porsche transaxle (through the kennedy adapter). The car wont weight much and I going to be for track days and cruises. I was thinking of going with a bridgeport and a weber/holley.
Any input on a good shop for this sort of build?

rotary resurrection is a good builder.
Do you know that the engine needs to be rebuilt for sure?
If there is a ton of miles on the engine you might be better off getting one of the JDM import motors. 4 port 13b's will make more power NA than 6 ports in my experience.
A local to me guy has a 13b-re fresh off the boat, no internal mods not rebuilt, running in an MG with down draft motorcycle carbs adapted to the stock LIM. This intake setup is far from ideal but the car make 180 ish WHP, he previously had a carbed ported 6 port which made less power despite being a fresh rebuild and ported and with a better intake system.
Edit: I just talked to him, its actually not carbed, its using motorcycle throttle bodies with a haltech and a pair of 850 cc injectors in the primary position.

I put a turbo in my 911. You will enjoy the extra horsepower. Still, a good running NA should be fine. The flywheel that came with my Kennedy kit is very light weight (lighter than the "light" flywheel for an RX7). It should make the engine rev quicker.

im going to take a closer look at the motor today and take off the few accessories still attached. ill look inside as best i can, but from a quick overview it looked rusty...

You will find the stock 914 gearing is way too tall for the high rev 13b.
Keep your eyes open for a 912 tranny and you can swap the top gears to raise the revs to the new engine's optimum range.

I don't think they are that tall. 3-3500 for highway cruising and drop down for what ever fun you want in the lower ones. Just don't give first gear too much hassle.
(mph on the vertical column for a 901 transaxle form a 914 calculated with 24.5" tires If I remember correctly... Not all 914 transaxles were geared the same but these this represents the gearing on mine and the rest are quite close)

New to group
I wanted to chime in and say hello. I also wanted to see if there is anybody still working or has a competed 914 rotary conversion. I am in the middle of pre-ing mine. I have a 73' 914 2.0 4-speed. I have purchased Renagade Hybirds LS1 cooling system and kennady's adapter and 9" clutch kit.
I am planning on installing a simple NA 12A to work through the lagistics and then upgrading to a 13B-T later.

I would go 4-port, streetport....48 IDA. Solved. If you can, get a 13B Cosmo shortblock, drive it till it blows and rebuild/port if needed....its got massive bucket ports as is....

Gen I & II vs. III
Well that all sounds good, but I have commited the other way.
Come to find out that the adapter and flywheel kit is one or the other. You can do 12A up to 13B-T but from 13B-TT to 20B is all Gen III and require the other adapter.
