If someone wants to pick up a car, I have a 2 wheeled dolley, a choice of two small pickups, and a free week from 28 May-5 June 2006...

I can't afford a $2000 scrapper car... If it were cheaper, I'd get one of those wagons.

But if someone wants a car and a lot of people want parts, it can be done. I'm up for a ludicrous road trip.

I'd like that S5 engine for the right price, but I'm in it more for the road trip.

Wonder which would be best for the cross country trip.

1993 Toyota 2WD 22R-E 5Spd
or
1989 Mazda 4WD 2.6L 5Spd (I'd flush coolant pre-trip.)

I'm sorry that I have not been replying to this thread. The owners of the yard were being so uncooperative that I knew nothing was going to work. I couldn't bring myself to keep posting about a lost cause that I probably care about way too much. I know that sounds lame but oh well. All of the cars got crushed Its not totally the fault of the rotary community. Like I said, the owners of the yard were not cooperative at all with pricing or anything else. I'm sure that if they were willing to let cars go for a few hundred a piece, things would have been different. There goes my Rx4 parts supply. I guess I'll be hitting you guys up when I need stuff now.

Now all we have to do is get their names and order a hitman. Anyone want to chip in? Anyone know where to get a hitman on the cheap? Cause I'm on a budget here.

Yea, unfortunately that part of the story is (nearly) true. When I asked the yard manager why they wanted SOoo damn much for scrappers ($2500 ea) he told me that the housing developers who bought the land (hence the yard) had set the price for individual vehicles. I suspect that once crushed, they probably claimed some inflated value other than the scrap price for tax purposes. The yard manager said that he sympathized with me, but that his hands were tied since his employer was the development company. Not sure how truthful he was being, but he DID seem sincere in describing the situation. Post 49 (previously) shows me standing in front of a fairly complete red GTUs with most of the factory goodies still in place. That one MAY have been worth the $2500, but very few others were worth that much coin.

Guess we'll never know for sure.

Should have tried a lawyer, couldn't have hurt. It's a shame for all of those cars to have been crushed!

well i don't mind hiring pro-bono attorneys, but i don't think is going to worth it if we need to pay that lawyers for his time and expertise.

Thats right, approx. thirty old schools are going to the crusher. And it's not just old rotaries. They, until this move, were the western United State's largest salvage yard. Essencially all of the classic American cars have made the move but the imports have not been so lucky. I have talked to them numerous times and they have given me all kinds of stories.

-We don't have a list of the cars that are going to make it yet.
-The cars you're interested in are going to make the move.
-Maybe the cars will make the move.
-We've made the move but the old rotaries didn't make it.
-You can buy all the parts you want but you cant buy a car.
-You can buy a car but its $2,000 to $3,000 (depending on the day you ask).

Again we're not just talking about Mazdas. There are cars out there like the Subaru 360... a whole row of them. Fiat 500s and 850's. BMW 1602's and 2002's, Datsun 510's Datsun 1600 Roadsters, Mitsubishi Starions, MG's, Triumphs etc. I know that the domestics made it but just to give you an idea of how many of these cars we're talking about, they have a row of Corvair cars, vans and pickups that is so long that a person can not see from one end of it to the other. Az is unique. Sheet metal like this is hard to find if not nearly impossible in some cases. Hidden Valley has horded these cars for years. It's about the only place that you can find a collection fo cars like this. Thats because they have scouped them all up. Now they're going to crush them all. Something should be done.

The last I heard, we have another 6 months before the cars all get crushed. As you see though, these guys have a history of changing their minds. I'm going to post on all of the forums that I know of in an attempt to build interest in this situation. If there are not people locally that want these cars, (there are after all a lot of them) then perhaps a greater awareness of sorts will help.

Here is the list of forums that I have in mind. Add to the list if you can.

AzRx7.com
Rx7club.com
Grass Roots Motorsports
Classic Motorsports
AzSolo2.com/forums
Az240.com

At this point I'm just asking for ideas. Please, lets hear em'.
Sir,

I need a 1974 RX4 hood, Do you have one and How with s/h to zip code 28306??

Thanks
Ray
