30 old schools on the way to the crusher

Hidden Valley Auto Wrecking of Maricopa, Az, has moved and left all of its old school rotary powered vehicles behind. But you can't have any! Thats right, approx. thirty old schools are going to the crusher. And it's not just old rotaries. They, until this move, were the western United State's largest salvage yard. Essencially all of the classic American cars have made the move but the imports have not been so lucky. I have talked to them numerous times and they have given me all kinds of stories.

-We don't have a list of the cars that are going to make it yet.
-The cars you're interested in are going to make the move.
-Maybe the cars will make the move.
-We've made the move but the old rotaries didn't make it.
-You can buy all the parts you want but you cant buy a car.
-You can buy a car but its $2,000 to $3,000 (depending on the day you ask).

Again we're not just talking about Mazdas. There are cars out there like the Subaru 360... a whole row of them. Fiat 500s and 850's. BMW 1602's and 2002's, Datsun 510's Datsun 1600 Roadsters, Mitsubishi Starions, MG's, Triumphs etc. I know that the domestics made it but just to give you an idea of how many of these cars we're talking about, they have a row of Corvair cars, vans and pickups that is so long that a person can not see from one end of it to the other. Az is unique. Sheet metal like this is hard to find if not nearly impossible in some cases. Hidden Valley has horded these cars for years. It's about the only place that you can find a collection fo cars like this. Thats because they have scouped them all up. Now they're going to crush them all. Something should be done.

The last I heard, we have another 6 months before the cars all get crushed. As you see though, these guys have a history of changing their minds. I'm going to post on all of the forums that I know of in an attempt to build interest in this situation. If there are not people locally that want these cars, (there are after all a lot of them) then perhaps a greater awareness of sorts will help.

Here is the list of forums that I have in mind. Add to the list if you can.

At this point I'm just asking for ideas. Please, lets hear em'.

Tell them to give me the Starion and the 510

banzaitoyota 03-01-06 06:49 PM

interested in RX4 parts/trim

I might be able to get access to a lot in phoneix. I would take all the old school mazdas. He is not getting more than scrap price for the metal if they are going to the crusher.

Sounds to me like these pricks know exactly what they're doing. They want the word to get out that they intend to crush these cars so that some rich collector will fork over a sum that's several times more than they would have made by simply parting these cars out or selling them as scrap metal.
:suspect:

I'd be interested in any old skool rotary (preferably an RX-3 or RX-4) and also very interested in either a 240Z or a Datsun 510... Or a Datsun roadster... Or a Starlet...

BLKTOPTRVL 03-01-06 09:22 PM

Them wanting to crush the cars may be a tax issue? Same as some corporations that destroy old computers rather than give them to schools/churches?

xrotaryguy 03-01-06 10:28 PM

the number is (520) 568-2954

I know for sure that they have a starion or 2. I was at one point wanting to get some front end parts off of them. I dont know for sure on the 510. I just wanted people to know what sort of cars are out there.

That would be fantastic if these cars could find their way to a yard in Phx. Shoot, in Phoenix people would be willing to buy parts off these cars (Maricopa is a ways out there). At a reasonable price would be even better. These guys are way expensive. I talked to Alma Imports a while back. They were not interested.

While its true that they want as much as they can get for these cars, you have to understand that they realize that it is all rare stuff. They have made their living selling rare parts. At this point though, I don't really understand the reasoning behind refusing to sell the cars even though they are headed to the crusher. None of the cars is in "collectable" condition. They're all parst cars. I guess if you wantd to you could make a race car out of one. You know what 30 year old junk yard cars look like though. No one is going to buy one for restoration purposes. And just so we're clear, Im not affiliated with these guys at all. If any one is going to make money from driving the prices up on a bunch of old junk, it's not me. :(

I think that tax purposes or perhaps paperwork reasons are what keep the price of a complete car so high. They probably don't want the DMV to come snooping around. I know that there are some issues with selling complete cars when you only have a salvage liscense. I wonder what would happen if a wholesaler were to buy the cars. Or a dealer...

If any of you guys wants to give them a call for cars or parts then the number is up there. Sorry I should have put that up there earlier.

The grass roots motorsports thread on this is pretty active too.

Just have them all shipped to my house. Ive got 20 acres to lay them out on. I may have to give them a call though i need an old rotory or 510 or starion. I wonder how many trips my rollback could make to AZ and back before it took a shit.

Hey you said you were close enough to cleveland, and I know you aren't. I'd be very interested in getting something old and classic for a track car to compete against all of these youngin hippies with their modern cars.

Visited "Hidden Valley Auto" last March and I can tell you that they have 6 RX-2s, 7 Rx-3/808s (4 coupes, 3 wagons), 7 Rx-4s (6 wagons and one 1977 Coupe), 2 Cosmos and 1 Rotary Pickup. A bunch of B1600 pickups and a rare 1800 sedan. Here are the photos of the RX-2s:

Cleveland is like 3 hours from my house to me thats damn close. I would love to drive out there to pick up some old cars but its just not in my budget and its like a 2 day drive. But if you all want to pitch in and call Mavrick trucking(my dad works there) and have them go out and pick up some cars Id be down for that. I just dont know how much it would cost to have them do that. But lets see here 53 foot long flatbed trailer, you could fit like 5 or 6 cars on there. Or a big car hauler you could get like 12. Damn now I want to call and see how much it would be.

Oh yeah EDit this shit in there

HAPPY 500TH POST ALEX lol just had to do it.

i like the green rusty one

xrotaryguy 03-03-06 09:05 AM

Good job on the inventory. Glad to see so much interest in this. It may be a lost cause but it wold be nice if something could be done. And again... its not just rotaries. there's a lot of weird stuff out there. I would say that there's atleast 2 of every weird car you can think of out there.

multirotor 03-03-06 03:47 PM

Incredible what you guys find in wreckyards... I feel very lucky to find a 2nd gen here in Europe.

Goopy 03-03-06 05:39 PM

Man did you see the GLC in the pic...
This is a sad day people...Please dont let them suffer like that.

We should see what we can get a 11 car carrier and all buy one car.
Figure scrap metal price should be around 100-125

fcdrifter13 03-03-06 08:14 PM

like i siad if we could all pitch in I would be down with buying one and paying part of shipping i mean even if it was like 300 a car to buy, and 3000 to ship 12 cars, each person would only have to pay like 600 for a car, not bad i think.

Andrew. 03-03-06 08:55 PM

Has anyone seen if they have any 2 door 510s or rx2 or 3's? If so what prices were they looking for them? Thanks

-Andrew
