Describe it to us, is it a 4-port or 6-port? Does it have a bridge from the oil filter pedestal to the dowel pin area? Does it have motor mount studs at the bottom of center plate? or on the front cover? Or on the rear plate?

There are so many different 13b motors that a picture would be a really great start.

Ok, I'll post some pics. I haven't posted pics on this site yet, how can I do it? Other than that I know it's a 4 port. I'll take some pics right now and hopefully I could post them.

I've rebuilt just about every 4 port 13B model that's ever come out of Mazda. I'm sure I can narrow it down for you.

I'm thinking Y side plates and '76-'78 US-spec rotor housings.

Rear plate is definitely Y. Can you take a pic on the other side of the oil filler tube? I'd like to see the top of the intermediate (middle) plate. The front looks kinda like a Y from how small the lifting hook casting is.

"Y" is basically any '79-'85 12A side plate. You can usually see the Y as a raised letter on each plate if you know where to look and it's clean enough to see.

Thankyou for posting those pictures. I now know you have a nitrided R5 13B from an HB Cosmo in Japan. Rear plate is definitely R5, as is the intermediate plate. I was wrong yesterday.

You also have a 2nd gen NA tranny. How's that working out for you?

Hey Percent, tell him how awesome your nitrided R5 4 port 13B is.

13b pics

I just got the car in march and I still need to get it running. It ran for a few weeks (pretty sluggish due to carb tuning), but now it doesn't want to start. I think it might be the distributor????? It's turning over, but just not starting.
