value of 76 rx-4 w/14XX miles

Hypothetical question,
If I was to have the opportunity to buy a new 1976 rx-4 in all original condition (tires, hoses, belts, every thing) in near perfect condition (except for a few miner problems with the carb / fuel system, in perfect shape) 2 door, dark green, green inerter, 13b, with 14XX miles on the odometer (not a typo).
What would the value of the car be and how much is too much to pay for it?
Nada puts the value of the car at $2000, personally, I think that is just stupid.
Thanks for your time, and if you have any questions let me know,
Dave

Hello Dave,

I believe its what a buyer is willing to pay for it. What is worth to you?

When a car is this old the NADA books goes out the window.

Where did you get the rx from? My dad knew an old man (I don't know his name) that had one in storage years ago when I was a kid. If I remember correct he was going to sell them but never actually had a dealership I don't think that it had ever even been titled. He also had an 53 nash-healy and an old nash road tractor converted to a wrecker. I was just wondering if it could be the same car if so, it was mint when i saw it but it was covered in dust. If you don't buy it let me know I may be interested in it.

Buy it

Hello

I'd say buy it. Its worth what you are willing to pay for it but I'd pay the 8K you mention. If your not interested I would be. I'd love to get my 74 RX4 Coupe a younger girl. Either way keep us posted on what you do.

Best regards

Max

No clue on the actual value but $8000 for a car as described sounds like a steal to me! I guess it really depends on what your plans with the car are.

There was this an advertisement in "Hemmings Motor News" August 1999:

1976 Mazda RX-4
914 original miles
open CO
never titled
5 speed, AM/FM stereo,A/C
in storage since new and runs perfect
$12,500

The car was located in Virginia and I wonder if this is the same car?

Yes it would depend on what your plans for it are. If you are looking to modify it, swap or port the motor etc... then its not the car for you. If you want to let it sit in a garage and tow it to shows, or drive very carefully then it is the car for you.

I think it is the same car. I had called back then but was in no financial position to buy it.

If I buy the car I’m gong to keep it original / stock but fix and replace any thing that keeps it from running reliably. And keep it as a showpiece and start hitting the rotary car shows, driving to the close ones and towing to the far ones. The car would get driven from time to time, but not often.
As far is the ad, it might be the same car but I doubt it, the one I’m looking at has been registered, and does not run right, due to extensive problems with the fuel system. From what I under stand the car has never run correctly, hence the low miles. How ever if some one has that hemings I would appreciate if you could pm me the contact info, as I’m not in contact with the owner, just the guy that has the car in his building. And if it is the same car I can get past the middle guy.
The guy that has the car now will not give me the contact info for the owner, and says that he wants 15000 for it.
If I cant have the car I want it to go to some one that will treat it proper, so if I have to I will try to get the car in the hands of some one who will take care of it.
