24 Hour of Chump Car

31 October - 1 November 2009
Portland International Raceway
ChumpCar World Series Inaugural Event!

Halloween Party & 24-hour Endurance Race! This will be one event you won't want to miss!

http://chumpcar.com/event_pdfs/Portl...al%20Rules.pdf

http://chumpcar.com/events.php

North America’s home for $500 race cars and 24 hour endurance road racing. This series is for gear-heads; for people who love driving and driving fast. It’s for grassroots race teams and almost-race-ready cars. ChumpCar is a throw-back to the era when racing was fun and cheap… when Bondo beat carbon-fiber; when a crescent wrench was the most valuable tool in your box; when home-made engineering made everyone sit up and take notice; and when adding a little theme to your car didn’t get you laughed out of the pit. Those were good times… and they’re back.

So, do you think you’ve got what it takes, chump?

so it's similar to the 24 hrs of Lemons (which I'm currently looking for a 500 dollar miata or 1st/2nd gen rx7 to enter when it comes here)

Similar but better [my IMHO] mostly for this: *they* WILL NOT destroy your car [it's still possible other racers will accidentally hit you of course, since they don't require actual track experience]

I'd hate to see an RX-7 in Lemons, get destroyed for the event's "fun." [it'd be a huge waste - and I hate waste..]

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. Come Sunday most of us will be running on fumes.

You mean the Mazdaratti, nah, it's Jason's DD now. I traded it for a blown low mileage REW motor. Crossing fingers I can use it and my blown motor to make one good one.

Awesome, I appreciate the help! I'll be a zombie come Sunday Morning.

thats funny you guys call it the mazdaratti. I took it to work one day and mentioned it and people actually thought it was something special without actually seeing it.

Well, we were in the lead up until5:45, when one of the drivers detroyed the back straight chicane barrier. The nerf bar saved the car, but we had to replace the radiator. We also replaced the fuel pump assembly, fuel filter, changed and replaced oil, coolant, plugs and plug wires in 45 minutes. Now we will be assessed a two hour penalty in the penalty box after the restart.

Congrats and that sux about the barrier. Any incar vids? Any idea on the results? Was it cold in the morning?

FWIW, Here's a pic of the line-up after the break and a vid, can't really see much. It was pretty entertaining watching at down at Turn 1 though. One guy in a MR2 kept blowing right through it. Looked like that volvo was scooting...

Yeah, we would have podiumed if it hadn't of happened.

Lots, once Ryan get back from SEMA he will be going through over 100 gigs of HD video. Got some great in car footage.

I believe we placed 8th, but may have been bumped back to 9th, not sure.

It was colder than a witches tit that morning, I'm getting shivers just thinking about it...ugh.

Yeah, who ever drove the Volvo when I was out on my midnight run has a few more screws loose than me. I had to lock up the brakes to avoid a four car pile up after he did a last minute dive bomb pass at the back straight chicane. Although I did some pretty aggressive dive bombs myself, so I really can't complain much. That and I brake checked his *** a few times to set myself up for a pass on a car in front of me at the back straight chicane. May have pissed him off. LOL

I know, I really should have this thread closed and do a recap of what I've done somewhere else more appropriate without all the fat added.

Glad your on board!

Just got a set of 4.44 diff gears off an RX-8. What what! Hopefully the JDM tranny with the taller fifth gear and 4.44 diff gears will help make a noticeable improvement on my times on medium to low speed tracks. If not alternate gears I come (got too, due to Redline TA rules). Thanks to John at Forged Performance I got a pretty good deal on the gears too.

Also to let you guys know I will be collaborating with Forged Performance on a few projects that we collectively want to do for the rotary community. Expect to see some cool stuff from them in the coming months.

Wish I had known you were looking for the RX-8 gears.

I have a 4.44 diff with 5k miles on it.

Pretty sure I am going to go with 4.77 instead.

I though I told you about me looking for RX-8 gears early this year? Oh well, see if you can do a trade on the RX8 Forums. First is going to be a granny gear for you my friend.

Though, a 4.77 would be great for a track like Buttonwillow. Fourth gear would actually be really useful and possibly would redline in fifth gear on the short front straight there. hmmm Would be shifting like mad though.

Picked up the chassis and it looks legit. Now I just need to put in a cage, stitch weld and strategically gusset the F out of the chassis. Yeah!
