The FD Restoration - $$$$ Damnit

Well, the motors out of the car and at Pineapple for a rebuild. Damaged the rotor bearings by starving them for oil and then detonating on top of it when I ran out of gas at PIR. Hopefully that's the only major damage done to the engine. Apex seals a Ianetti's and they look fine.

Starting to strip the car for a proper paint job instead of the Matco Special I have on mine.

Anybody know of someone locally that has a full set of black interior they would like to sell or trade for Tan interior? ?????Spider????

Just got my SSR Comp-H wheels (15lbs each) and V710 tires in last week too.

Things to do/get still:

Raceshop four point cage

Delrin Bushing kit (in the mail)

AutoExe under chassis brace and front tower brace

99 Spec plateless front end turn signals, Feed side skirts (In the Mail).

Datalogit for Power FC (In the Mail)

Apexi BOV (Send Check)

Rebuild Efini's

Another BOV for Secondary Turbo that I can plum back into the intake track.

Fabricate Custom Y-Pipe

Either fabricate DIY air box or buy HKS Racing suction kit and replace the foams for
K&Ns (By the way foam does jack all for filtering - Apex "Hint Hint")

Custom DIY V-mount - I really don't like what's out there (no ones putting vibration/durability in mind and the end tanks are a joke) and I have access to a full machine shop so why not.

Decide if I want to modify the wiring harness so the batterry and all relay/fuses are in the Passenger storage bin, or heat wrap what I have and call it good for now. Majorly time consuming.

Modify stock seats, DIY upper to improve lateral support and still fit within cage.

Jesus, this going to be expense and time consuming.

So when are you looking to be done? If you would have contacted me yesterday I could have saved a bunch of black interior pieces for you. They were for a RHD but I am sure that some of them would have worked.

I did...I posted in the NW FS section a few times. I had held on to the parts for nearly 8 months and they had to go.

They were little small things here and there but could have been the parts that you might have needed.

Good thing about changing the color of the interior is that is does not effect driving performance

If it makes you feel any better mine is brown

hell man I 've seen what you can do and what resources you have, you should do the braces yourself. If you need help give me 2 weeks notice so I can ask the wife 14 times and she will still say the night before I told her nothing about it Man that going to be a sweet ride when you're all done. What color are you going to go for and why worry about the interior if you're going to cage it or do you not want to do the Apex thing....

Hahaha... true, but the car would just look off with a high metal flake Gunmetal paint job and tan interior.

Space your right, but man that's a lot of fab work!! The cage is a bolt on for now, I have to buy out my dad's share of the car before I gut it and weld a twelve point. I haven't done it yet because for me to insure it will be 10 times more than what he pays. Man, when I buy that thing out right insurance is going to kill me!! Just like my bike, $276 a month.

Hey, some of you may say what a lame ***, but this car has gotten my dad and me a lot closer. It's the perfect medium.

Man thats freaking cool (and so is your dad by the way and he makes a mean burger).I can't wait until my kid is old enough and we can work on stuff.
So it sounds like with a insurance bill like that you might want to say you've met the police on a few occasions ?
Offer still is good if you need a hand

Hey everybody, I'm gonna be working on the car all Friday night, Saturday and Sunday at Apex's shop. If you want to come down and help or just drink beer and watch me work that that would be cool.

If thats you by the silver FD in the one pic then I remember you. I was co-driving the black FD in Yakima last year and racing the emerald mica 99 Miata in Packwood at the pro-solo and some of the other events. Sorry to hear about the car, I look forward to seeing it when you get it all put together. I am sure you are aware just how much work it is to build a V-Mount. I think those one guys said they had over 100 hours in theirs, but it would be worth it for racing on the track.

Actually I was one of the guys who did that V-mount on Cartapex's FC. And your right it is a lot of work. I'm currently relocating the Air pump to the A/C pump location to create more room for my custom ducting I will be making for the twins and intake. Required a lot of machining.

Maybe when I'm done with all this I might be able to give the Viper guys in ASP a run for their money. Especially since I finally got a good set of V710s.

Peace

Actually, I plan on relocating my battery to the passenger storage compartment. I need the extra room for the intercooler.

Relocating the coils? I don't plan on it, I'm already hurting for space and I still want to retain the cruise control. That would be the only place I would put it. Make a custom rubber mounted mounting plate. Where you located? If your local, we could get together and plan something up and I will make it for you.

South Portland, Or. You going to the Mazda drive on May 13th? If so, we can meet there. What are you retaining in the cruise control bin area?

Update

Got the fender that I won off of ebay; opened the package and I was like...WTF?! That's a green fender.

This picture of the interior shows how cheap my old paint job was.

Fender damage, going to have the body shop check if the chassis is even straight.

Soda Blaster guy is going to pick up the car Monday.

Peace
