Cool Chris's widebody project....

By demand i am posting progress pics of the widebody build i am doing to bearzah's 85 rx7.... Its comming along slowly but getting there! Here are some progress pics of it....

This is when we first got it.....

was REALLY beat up when we got it... The castings were near shot.

We got it in my shop...

started taking it down

mockups

front bumper arrived, was going to be a challenge putting a mode 4 bumper on a mark style kit.

started bringing the fenders to it, prepping the front for new casts.

got them brought down to meet the metal...

there were alot of areas the mold was broke all the way through, was almost not salvagable...

thankfully SOME of the larger cracks did not go through all the way.

but most of them did

redoing the fiberglass mesh and epxy on the backside of this was going to be VERY hard to do...

got the bumper fitted and ready to bolt on!

Secured!

nice fit!

And castings done, lightwight micro over the outside, and done... Made tube castings and the mat casting on the inside to prevent it from ever having this happen again...

The well's did not match up at all, the concave and the roll were way off, had to redo both of them and fab new wheelwells.

made the castings for both sides then laid some microlight to get the curves a little closer...pic is taken in the middle of sanding it...lots a work...

and still sanding and shaping.......

new fibermats laid behind and they are ready for micro as well...

shaping,shaping,shaping...sigh....

f orgot to get before pics of this crack... went all the way through and had to have a new casting laid behind it.. lite micro, ready for some sanding and glazing...

Some lowspots the glazing will cover...

had to wrap around the qtr to clean it up and make it look smoother. Will bearly show with the bumper and the lights being there, but why half *** it?

ready for glazing...

i just got done molding the bumper to the fender and making the new inner wheel well lip

turned out great.. They were meant to be togeather, lol

So thats where i am at right now... I will post more pics as the build progresses

I actually have the same kit, Thankfully it was new when I bought it. Unfortunately it definately didn't fit the greatest either. You guys did a great job of molding in the other fron airdam. The original one took me a ton of work to get it bolted in and together properly. Looks good

Hopefully Joe should be back in town tonight or tomorrow... We're a little bit held up until I buy some more POR60 epoxy to hold the side-skirts and wing in place (along with rivets of course)

Looks great. I'm impressed by the quality of work.

One observation from an old guy... I noticed is some of the pics that you were grinding underneath the back end with the car just up on a floor jack. Bad things do happen, maybe use a set of jack stands next time?
