Wiper Switch Issue

This is common from what I could google, but I joined this site hoping for some specific advice/information.

Allow me to preface that I am by no means a mechanic and the extent of my mechanical knowledge is how to install a radio or do an oil change. lol.

anyway, I bought a fc3s rx7, and trusting the inspection (doh) didn't test the wipers before buying the car. Well, it rained today and they don't work (on any setting). The rear wiper does, however. I took it to a garage and had them look at it (after replacing the "WIPER" fuse didn't work) and they told me that the switch (that also controlled the rear wiper and the hazards, both of which work) was broken even though it was recieving power and a replacement would be $975.

I laughed and got some rain-x.

I'm reading that this problem is just with the relay - i'm wondering if anyone can give me some specific instructions on fixing this problem (or a link to some)

thanks in advance and apologies for being such a noob.

if it's hard, i'll pay someone local to raleigh, nc $150 or so to come do it

Here is a link to a DIY on repairing the wiper switch. The instructions were derived from Icemarks old web site which is no longer available. I will keep this page up for at least a few weeks.

There are a number of things you can check. First thing to check is Head fuse in the engine fuse box. This fuse powers the headlight relay 24/7. There are two Red wires at the headlight relay which will have voltage 24/7 if the fuse is good. If both of these points are good to go then stab a jumper wire into the back of the headlight relay where the White/Blue wire is and place the other end of the jumper wire to a ground and the low beams should light up.

There are a number of items which could cause the lights to not work ranging from the headlight switch to headlight relay to dimmer switch, dimmer relay, headlights, wiring and lastly fuses. The info I already provided you is just a test to see what is the root cause of your problem. I suggest you try them for if you get a different headlight switch and the problem is a relay or wiring as an example then the new headlight switch will provide no help at all.
