Trouble with Dale Clakes speedo hack

I tried this on a JDM 98 car to get it's 180kph guage into mph. The Odo mileage has changed into miles from Km. However the Speedo is still Kph.
I also caused a lot of damage to the SMD resistors pads and replaced with a through-hole of the same value. (my 98 cars glue was strong)
Perhaps JDM cars are slightly different. I should probably try soldering the resister to the lower left position a bit scared of f****** the big IC though due to that boards cost of replacement.
Interestingly with my borked cluster the trip computer records every KM as a mile. So my mileage is going up 1.6x faster than it should.
Any advice on a solution, anyone?
