Trans Swap on 2009 Rx8 Questions

So I just recently got an 09 rx8, 6speed. It is stuck in 4th and has been as long as I've known the car. I've purchased a 6speed trans out of a 06, will they bolt up? I know the reverse is in a different location. What am I about to deal with??

welcome to the board.

well, as you may or may not know, your S2 car uses a different transmission than the S1 tranny that you bought. as far as bolting up goes, it should bolt to the engine without issue. i suspect it will also bolt to the car without issue as well, but in order to check, you might want to go ahead and measure from the bell housing to the two studs where it bolts to the frame.

here is a priceless thread that may help: https://www.rx7club.com/general-rota...guide-1153243/

Thank you, I'm actually headed home now to get the first trans out. It's stuck in 4th and I would like to tear it down and rebuild It in time if the other works, if not. I've got 2 lemons and free time

Why not see if a shift fork is out of place before switching the trans? Had this happen on a first gen trans.

You have to seperate the trans just a bit.

I got the second trans so if I tore down the first and it got to complicated I have a back up. But you make it sound like it's not to insane of a job, I may try tearing down the original before I mess with try to bolt up the s1 trans

Don't put a S1 trans in an S2. The Aisin AZ6 (S1 tranny) is known for being made of glass. My first RX-8 had a second gear grind on high rpm shifts, and my second RX-8 (also a Series I) wasn't as bad, but I would never put a S1 trans into a S2, you are going backwards in resilience and quality. Rebuild the S2 trans or buy another S2 trans.

Anyone have any visual representation of how the fork should be aligned?
