Hi guys I’m kinda new to the rotary world. Anyways I went to get my car smogged today and it passed but then on my way to the DMV I noticed I couldn’t go into 3rd or 1st fear the text work fine but I can’t shift into those two while the car is on or off. Am I gonna need a new trans? Please help.

 

Don't have a magic wand to diagnose your transmission. And you didn't even mention what year car you have.
The good news is that despite the rotary engine, there is nothing unique to the transmission and any trusted shop good with transmissions should be able to help you. It maybe a simple linkage or shifter bushing issue.

 

Did it grind while you were trying to put it into 1st or 3rd while its running? Maybe consider bleeding your slave cylinder, and making sure it has full range of movement.
