Surging W/ a low idle?

I am quite new to 1st gen rx-7’s and i’ve been having issues with my idle and just fuel/air mixture in general. The car is running very rich and the idle is sitting extremely low. I engage the choke and make sure the car warms up before attempting to to tune and I’ve been trying my best to use videos and such as reference to how i should tune it and i’ve had some decent success with bringing the idle up at least, but i can’t seem to stop the car from dropping in rpm’s and surging whenever i give it a little gas.

What year is the car and if it's an 84 or 85, is it a GSL-SE? This will help us get you going in the right direction.

welcome to the board.

1. follow the FSM procedure to set idle via the idle speed and idle mixture screws
2. check the accelerator cable and throttle shaft - make sure they are not binding before returning their respective resting positions
3. check for vacuum leaks
4. check the timing with a light
