low idle bad thing?

do you guys think there would be any negative effects of having your idle set at 700 rpm?

the car seems soo happy at this speed and shows a vacuum of 17in.hg

at an idle of 850 I get 19in.hg but the occasional miss-like shake.

tried searching for low idles but cant find any answers.

so again the only reason i want to keep it at 700 is because it doesnt have that shake every now and then that feels like a miss.

Thanks
david

hrmmm. the stock idle is set to 720 or so. most people place it at 800. if it idles well at 700 go for it. save soem gas, save your engine the stress. it wont hurt it. and i have absolutely no clue why it would miss at 800 but not at 700. that seems backwards to me. check your plugs maybe. but, yeah its not gonna hurt you to have your idle that low.

Having a 700rpm idle is no problem at all. About that "miss" you're talking about -- that's probably just backfiring. I used to get it prior to adjusting my idle at a nice 750rpm.

My idles around 700 too and it mis-fires even with new plug/wires at idle. maybe because of the M2 ecu

I have mine set at 700. I used to have it set to 850 or so, but the car ran so much better at a lower idle. I dont see the oscillating rpms or the "pop" "pop" "pop" at start-up anymore

at what point is the idle too low?

does the alternator need the engine spinning higher than a certain rpm in order to maintain the load of the car?

is that why mazda recommends the minimum idle speed at 850?

mines at 700 now but the car seems even happier at 600rpm
