Starting Problem
Hey Guys,
I just recently picked up and rx-7. It was running ok so far. Now when i start up the car it takes a long time starting like its not getting enough power. Also earlier when i was idling it stalled. Advise please. Is this something major?

What year RX-7?
When is the last time the car had a full tuneup?
Can you clarify "not getting enough power"? What does that mean? What does the car do and sound like?

Do the simple checks first. Check battery voltage while cranking (should be not lower then 11V) and clean all the battery cable connections (at the battery, starter, chassis ground, fuse box, etc.).

If it sounds like it starts "slow" then it could be the starter that need to be replaced or the solenoid. But I recommend that you replace the whole starter to keep further problems from occurring if that is the problem. Otherwise it could be your alternator or distributor. If the spark plugs are getting the spark at the wrong time it could cause the car to start slower or stall. If you aren't very handy with electrical parts then i think you should take it in to a shop and get it checked out. The last reason i can think of why it would start slow or stall is bad fuel pump or injectors. If this is true then i recommend buying new ones immediately to prevent further problems with the engine.

Before replacing starters or fuel pumps, perform a simple check of the condition of the battery cables. Don't spend $500 and then learn the problem was a $5 cable.
