Starting Issue?

Hello there guys, just a simple issue im having with my car. About a week ago I noticed that my car would start kinda "laggy" like the starter is turning but u can notice a slight lag between the turning of the starter and the start of the car. Yesterday the car just would not start, I replaced the spark plug wires, wiggled the battery connection a bit, and took out the ignition fuse and put it back in. After a few tries it finally started.

So I've started the car about 8 times since the incident but its still slighty lagging between the turning and the starting.....

Lemme Know wut you all think

Without any specific info I'm tempted to think you just have a weak battery. If it has anything significantly less than 12.5 v the starter will turn slow. It could be something entirely different, but I'd start with that.

I actually just replaced the battery, and now its not turning so I ordered a new starter and I guess we'll have to go from there.

My ground cable from the battery was a bit corroded and caused the same problem. I just cleaned up the ground connections and that solved the problem.

Different starting issue

I've replaced the battery, the starter but it still won't turn over. I'm thinking it maybe be a bad starter or an electrical problem to the starter or possibly a bad ignition switch but i'm not too familiar with ignition switches and their problems so I'm just throwing up all possibilities here. Would love some insight on this annoying problem I've had for a couple weeks now and thought I'd ask.

Thanks ahead of time

well im having that same problem after days of working on this FC. I changed the battery and tested the starter and I have no idea why its still not working. Its just not turning and all I hear is a click. I think ima just take it to a shop cause I need my car to run for obvious reasons.

Is your car an S4 or S5 and does it have the factory alarm or not as it would "help" to know these things.

run a wire off the small spade connector to the starter to the positive battery terminal with the car in neutral, this will at least rule out an issue with the battery or starter wiring.

And what year is the S4? More importantly do you normally have to depress the clutch to start the car or not? Locate the Blue plug found in the pic provided and jumper voltage from the battery positive terminal to the Black/White wire in the plug as mentioned by Karack. The end result should be that the starter turns over immediately. If it does not then check the quality of the connection of the B/W wire to the starter solenoid.

Idk how this forum feels about double post and I am sorry ahead of time.

SO heres an update boys and girls. I went to a shop and dropped off my and per note given by the mechanic.

Diagnosed system and found faulty starter, also one bolt for the starter stripped out. Recommend replacing the start and installing heilicoil for bolt.

So I came to the conclusion that Im going to replace my starter and chuck my old one at the minimum wage idiot working at advanced that tested it originally. But all jokes aside whats a heilicoil.

OH Not sure of the problem

When i got my car the mass air sensor was off and the wires were cut.
It would start but when you gave it gas it would die.
I noticed after it did start and i let it just idle for a while the cat was glowing orange.
I dont know much about these rotary motors but i was wondering if they can also jump time.

Please help!

A helicoil is what is used if the thread of a bolt Hole are basically Screwed.
They drill out a touch and add a coil that acts as threads for the new bolt to grab on to.

The timing will advance some if the idle is set too high as it should be around 750-800, and above 1100 rpm or so the timing advances.

The stock (factory) ECU is definitely not equipped to run the car w/o the AFM being connected. The AFM has an internal fuel switch which provides a ground signal for the Circuit Opening relay which governs voltage to the fuel pump to run it plus the AFM feeds relevant signals to the ECU as far as metered (measured) air flow entering the throttle body and the temp of this air flow which the ECU incorporates into selecting how much fuel change needs to be made to run the car correctly.

starting issue...93 rx-7 (14 thou only) parked for 1 year, changed fluids, plugs are not wet with gas when checked.
I suspect clogged injectors form old gas, is there way i can check them before I go thru with removing them?
