Sachs rotary HELP!-I know it isn’t mazda
Hello! A few days ago I came across a Sachs KM37 rotary in the back of the auto shop in my local high school. It was completely disassembled however it appeared as though it was in great condition. Everything was there, it was complete. I’ve spent the past two days rebuilding it and now that I’ve finished—nothing. I have spark, compression, and fuel and yet I get nothing. Vapor does come out of the exhaust regardless of kill switch position. My general knowledge of engines tells me timing would be off. After looking at the Sachs km48/37 repair manual which can be found as a pdf online I learned that there is a mark on the flywheel and a mark on the block of the engine for TDC and 12degrees. The magneto is on the flywheel and the manual says that the mark on the flywheel(fan) should lineup with TDC when the rotor is at TDC. Looking through the spark plug hole, I see a flat side of the rotor when the lines match up. Not sure how to find TDC or why the engine won’t start. It won’t even cough or sputter or anything. Just push vapor out of the exhaust. I have 50:1 mix with 87 octane gasoline. The flywheel has a keyed shaft so the only way I could adjust timing is by taking the magneto off and moving it to another part of the flywheel (there’s holes all around). Thing is it was attached when I found it and it matches the pictures in the manual in the current orientation. Any advice or tips would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED as I’ve been scratching my head over this one.
Fuel line is off because I ran it directly into gas can. I also tried spraying gas in the carb with and without choke and drizzled some into spark plug hole.
