s5 gearbox into FD??
Is there any reason why I couldn't put a s5 manual gearbox into my 92 FD?? I would imagine the drive shaft would have to be modified, and possibly the gearbox mount???... Assuming of course a s5 box will bolt onto a 3rd gen. block..

Assuming that you are talking about the R Type tranny7 found on the Turbo versions of the S5 and not the non turbo M type tranny.
Either way, the clutch assembly is different (Push vs Pull), and the shifter assembly would probably need to be changed as well as the location of the assembly and mounts, then the S5 R type does not have provisions for the Power plant frame, so I am not sure how you could attache that.
Would need a bunch of work to do it if it could be done

The T2 and 3rd gen transmissions share the center housings and much of the internals. However, as Icemark noted you will need to deal with the bellhousing and pull clutch, powerplant frame, and drive shaft. So it's not a bolt-in, and there is no benefit within the internals to speak of.
If you're going with huge HP and ditching the PPF I can see the value in using T2 for the tail housing since you'll have a tranny mount provision to use.
Is there any particular reason you want to do this?

Hey thanks for the replies...
Yea the long story is I bought a fresh Jap import engine ,s5 turbo with manual, loom, computer (complete and running), to put in a old Vauxhall I have. Then, naturally, a rolling body s6 got offered to me at a ridiculous price soon after, so I'm now going to focus my attention on that.
So now I'm trying to use as much as possible from the Engine/box i already have. I'm trying to avoid cutting corners but would like to stretch my money too, unfortunately it seems not much at all is compatible. Oh by the way, the s6 is an auto, so I'm happily/naturally going to change to manual.
I talked to some rotary workshops here in NZ and they said putting S5 engine into 3rd Gen. would be excessively time consuming and expensive, " Opening up a can of worms" was his words.
Any thoughts?? Thanks again

yep cool, i totally agree too. It seems from everyone's help and input i will end up with a better result "if i keep it in the generation".. I'll just have to take the s5 purchase on the chin. Might rebuild just for the experience, done pistons but never rotary.. I'm young and still learning..

In saying that, would it be true if you pull a rotary down and rebuild it religiously, like every 50 thousand km, or even at the first sign of loss of seal life (if you had that option) you can use the same rotors/housings indefinitly??
I bugged a guy to help him pull down a s4 13bt block. We found 1 apex seal had gone and the rotor/housings had deep gouging, e.g. fawkd. So unless there was some ignition/fuel problem, like detonation etc. to cause a seal failure, the same block could be reused??
