NY oil pressure

i thought this question would be better answered with its own thread. i have a 1990 fc na convertible with a 13b and i just wanted to see if anyone had the oil pressure specs for this car.

right now i have zero at idle and about 30psi at 3k rpms. now the gauge must work since i get different reading correct. i have not yet cleaned the wire connector ( have to get the dielectric grease). but should the car have that low a pressure at idle. i have gmc 3500 pickup duramax and that pressure is low at idle but not zero then the rpms build the pressure. this wankel should do the same correct? but i guess i need to know whats safe. the car i believe has 20-50 in it now, if that matters. ( found a quart in the trunk). once again i have read a lot of threads but i am not sure they give the answer that fits my situation.

thanks again any info for this noob would be helpful

You probably don't have zero PSI, otherwise the engine would have locked up. More then likely the stock sender has failed. They are getting quite old and we are starting to see more and more failures. Cleaning the connection may help.

If you can, verify with another aftermarket gauge. If oil pressure is still low, then there may be a front cover o-ring failure.

You should see somewhere around 30 PSI at idle, and above 50 PSI above 4000 RPM.

i cleaned the connection as best i could and i had a little more pressure so i am pretty sure now its just the gauge.

the front cover o ring would that be the seal between the the front of the engine and the first rotor housing? i see some oil at that seam about the height of the bottom plug. that would be a major fix then correct? pull the front of the engine off and replace or is that a total rebuild. i cannot drive the car due to the clutch which we will be fixing next week but i don't seam to be using oil that much. if that was bad would it make the engine run different? maybe thats what is causing the idle issue?

should i check a plug?

Is there any easy way to remove the sending unit, from what I see there are some things in the way.

i think i can get the sending unit out and what i think i am going to do is get a tee and use the stock gauge with a aftermarket gauge. maybe i will do the same with the engine temp and get a double gauge holder on the upright. should look good and function.

i just don't want to find the oil leaking on the engine seal then it could leak into the rotor as well right?

Forget the OEM sender/gauge. Pick up a sensor adapter like the one RB sells and install decent aftermarket oil temp and pressure gauges. Might want to install a coolant temp gauge/sensor as well.
