Okay here's the deal. I got my first RX7 about a month ago. It's an '88, and that is about all i know. The guy i bought it from said that the apex seals were blown but i don't know if that is all. I have tried and tried to get it started and I can't even get a battery connection. I am right now going through and checking all the fuses and was wondering if someone had anymore ideas.
If one or more of the apex seals are gone, you probably will not be able to start the car. To verify what the previous owner told you, do a compression test. That will verify whether or not one or more apex seals are gone. If the seal(s) has failed, the engine will need to be rebuilt or replaced. For a rebuild, assuming you are capable of doing it yourself and assuming the major components can be reused, figure on $1,200-$1,500 on up. If you cannot do the rebuild yourself, double those numbers at least. I hope you didn't pay much for the car.
For info on how to do a simple compression test bo here:

yea i found a engine for 500 bucks, and i was going to get the one in it rebuilt and balanced and all that good stuff. would you happen to know why i can't even get a battery connection?
what do you mean you cant get a battery connection?
when you turn the key nothing happens? is it a competent battery? have you tried hooking up a charger or booster or done a load test on the battery?. if all those are yes, and your batter is good, follow your negitive cable, it could be a simple grounding problem.

okay this is probably the dumbest thing ever said on here but i am just learning so take it easy on me but, the battery is brand new, the fuse able links and all the fuses are brand new. i followed the battery cables back. one goes to my block and the other one goes into what i think is my starter.
what all needs grounds i have heard the alternator and starter do but miost of my friends are dumb and don't know anything.how many grounds do i need etc. thanks all the help is and will be greatly appreciated.

every electrical item on the vehicle must be grounded. now, that doesnt mean everything has to be grounded for the car to turn over, or to get dash lights. generally if you arent getting anything with a key turn and you say the battery is good, its either a major ground or possibly an ignition problem.
