Is that car even safe?!

At any rate, you can probably get to the lock from the passener side. Remove the inner door panel screws on that side and then carefully peel the panel back enough just until you can see the lock. Then open it up from inside the door.

Take the panel completely off and close the door, observing what happens to the latch mechanism.

There is a small spring on the latch, and if it is missing, this will happen.

Aaron's right on peeling back the door panel so you can get your hand in there. Take the panel off of the passenger door and use it for a reference. You will find the rod that goes to the door handle that releases the latch, pull up on that.

i have the same outer handle problem on both doors. it must be a pretty common design flaw that little piece that breaks. for now i have to leave a window open enough to reach in and open the handle from the inside. working on a fix now :/

good luck with the door!

ya! on the end of the metal rod that locks/unlocks and the one that opens the door is a small plastic capthat connects the rod to the handle arm and lock arm!

Or you may have to look in the other door and take the spring and try to match it at a hardware store or something.
