Is that car even safe?!

At any rate, you can probably get to the lock from the passener side. Remove the inner door panel screws on that side and then carefully peel the panel back enough just until you can see the lock. Then open it up from inside the door.

Take the panel completely off and close the door, observing what happens to the latch mechanism.

There is a small spring on the latch, and if it is missing, this will happen.

i would try to close the door and watch what happens but i can not even get the door to open up, it was a mistake i know i should have checked everything out and how it would all fit together, but i was rushing and yeah... messed up, but yeah actually the car is safer now with the new door than before, that side pictured was crushed into a wall drifting way before i owned it and now im trying to put it back together its a project man come on hah thanks and yeah i would try your advice but i can not even open the door at all... its shitty!

Aaron's right on peeling back the door panel so you can get your hand in there. Take the panel off of the passenger door and use it for a reference. You will find the rod that goes to the door handle that releases the latch, pull up on that.

its all pulled apart the panel is pulled off i have been yanking on both the rods that could possibly open the door and they will not open that door for nothing i just dont know how to get the lock to release from the door, once it closed on the car its been on since...

i have the same outer handle problem on both doors. it must be a pretty common design flaw that little piece that breaks. for now i have to leave a window open enough to reach in and open the handle from the inside. working on a fix now :/

good luck with the door!

this happens to my old rx7, at one point in its life someone tried stealing it key hole is messed up if i lock it with the key the door will not open with key, or not from inside, i have to go inside from the pass side take off door panel from inside the car its hell, and take a flathead screwdriver and pop it open its a pain, on top of that pass door locks but doesnt unlock with key once i locked both doors and had to go in from the hatch sucked, this is when i figuerd out the pass door doesnt unlock with key but works from inside

v-townboy 10-12-10 06:37 AM

ya! on the end of the metal rod that locks/unlocks and the one that opens the door is a small plastic capthat connects the rod to the handle arm and lock arm!

drift13b88 10-27-10 02:44 PM

take the inside panel off, get a flat head long as possible and manually pop the hinge were it actually conects to the body

Yup, this happened to me once. Fixed the problem, and now i just leave my car unlocked always lol

datz 10-27-10 06:33 PM

its ghetto but on my first car the handle didnt work so i took the doorpanel and glass out and slightly pu the rod where its supposed to go and covered it with alot of locktite glue.
it worked for almost a year in the arizona heat!!

v-townboy 11-13-10 11:16 PM

well with a little bit of time and alot of figuring things out i manuely poped the door with a screw driver and i figured that the door was hung a littte crooked, so i straightend out the door and everything latched up it was a pain but everything works nicely now im on to the next thing to fix ha ha

Another door handle... are you sure the spring is missing?

diabolical1 11-10-18 10:27 AM

Or you may have to look in the other door and take the spring and try to match it at a hardware store or something.
