Question Hesitation During Acceleration and Rough Idle

I thought I would start a new thread in the hope of attracting attention. I have a pure-stock 1993 RX-7. After completely warming up the engine (coolant temp stabilized) using low acceleration and low rpms, when I first get on the gas hard the engine hesitates for a second or two (essentially no power) then takes off and runs normally. Also the idle is rough and the idle speed varies from 1000 rpm to 400rpm (with AC off) and some times the engine dies at traffic lights. I replaced the spark plugs but no help. Does any one know if these two problems are related (hesitation and rough idle)? What are the potential causes?

Still waiting for some advice. A referral to threads with similar issues would be helpful.

Unfortunately, until you post enough you cannot ask this question where people might know the answer. My experience would be to check fuel delivery (injectors, fuel pump, etc.) and go from there. The issue would be related.

bmwtmx -- Apparently we are both new members ... Junior Members ... inexperienced. However, I believe I am allowed to post questions in the New Member Section of the Forums without restriction. Let me know if I am wrong. Also, thanks for the clues. I'll check the fuel system.

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me. Check for that and adjust TPS per fsm. fsm can be found here foxed.ca

I don't know exactly what I am inexperienced at considering I have several cars, raced competitively and tracked cars for over 18 years, belong to many forums and am a pretty good mechanic. I just got my RX7 a little while ago and join forums to get info, buy and sell parts or cars, and meet people. I haven't ever experienced anything like this before but to each their own.

With that in mind good luck

Sounds like the car has a massive vacuum leak somewhere. Diagnose via the standard method.

Make sure the TPS is functioning correctly. There are check procedures in the factory service manual.

bmwtmx --- Sorry I hit a nerve. "Inexperienced" in the use and rules for this RX-7 Club website. Sorry I was ambiguous.

Thanks Fuhnortoner and Aaron Cake --- Vacuum leak sounds like a good possibility ... best bet so far. I have a factory Work Shop Manual so I will get to work.

Oh you didn't hit a nerve at all and I apologize if I came across that way. More my frustration with the forum as it is the only RX7 forum out there and it has these nonsensical rules. Good luck.
