FD smells like gas in cabin

Started the other day. Relatively strong smell of gas in side the car. I didnt see anything wet underneath the hood and it doesnt smell underneath there either. I didnt alittle research and will be changing the pulsation dampener on monday, ive also read it could be the evap canister? its a 93. Car runs great to minus the possible fire hazard.
Anyone know what it could be?

You might also check around the gas tank hatch. Under the rear carpet, left rear. Loose connection, gasket failure...any signs of sweating.

Ill check that as soon as im off work, if it is the pulsation damper is there anyway to check it besides removing the upper intake manifold? or does it show a specific sign its failing? im just worried about a fire because thats all you get when you search for RX7 gas smell haha. And it may take a few days if no mazda dealers on the island have that part.

No, you'll have to remove the upper intake manifold to access the FPD. If it has failed it should be pretty apparent. Usually it's the diaphram which allows gas to escape out the expansion hole.....you'll see what I mean when you see one. IF it is the FPD, I'd replace the high-pressure hose while you're in that deep. Honestly though, I think smelling gas INSIDE the car from a bad FPD is unusual. Usually you just smell it in the engine bay. First suspect would be that cannister or tank hatch.

Kinda nervous to start the car, still cant see any fuel leaking under the engine bay, but I have to get to the on base hobby shop to get access to tools. It still smells in the car and it hasnt been ran in two days, no leaks in the back....im thinking its the canister?

How does one exactly check the charcoal canister? the outside of the car doesnt smell, just the inside. and it goes away with the fans on, however my AC doesnt work it needs a recharge.

just visual. check for cracks. but that would cause that big of smell inside. I would start with fuel pump and the seal

Found it, when I got the car it had water in the trunk from a bad seal and to many okinawa typhoons, it rusted through the top of the gas tank from one of the drain holes thus allowing pure fumes into the car through said hole.
