FB RX-7 stalling on cold starts (12A carb)
hi guys i need a little more help, so my car doesn't start at all without giving it a little gas, and when I stop giving it gas, the engine dies unless its fully warm. i figured it was a choke issue but I took off the carb lid and checked, its functioning just fine, its an aftermarket electric carb too so id figure it would be working. when I have the key in and its in the on position, I hear a clicking below the drivers seat which I'm guessing is the fuel pump. could this be the issue? maybe it needs a pump or filter? I've never owned a carb car before let alone a rotary so idrk what else it could be. if you need anymore info please ask and ill answer asap

welcome to the board.
let's start here ...
it would probably help to know the specifics of what carburetor is on it.
the pump is, indeed, just behind the driver's seat (under the car). i'm not sure what to make of your description of a clicking noise though. i suppose a running pump can be described as clicking, if it's loud enough. at any rate, it's safe to assume the pump works because you said the car starts, and will run when warm. so your issue is probably with the carb itself.

i apologize, i meant it's an electric CHOKE. it's a holley / racing beat carb, not too sure what model or anything as I'm not the one who installed it. I've noticed recently that at freeway speeds in fifth gear, the engine runs like it's lean. its mostly when I'm pointed uphill so I do believe its a problem with the fuel pump. if not, maybe its the fuel filter?

lol. i know.
okay, so Holley ... yeah, you're going to want to get a pressure gauge (perhaps a pressure regulator as well) in the system at some point. other people can guide you through to getting things right, or at least tolerable, but you're going to need some way of quantifying some data. i suspect you may already have an aftermarket pump on there now that i have a little more context to your "clicking" description. at any rate, please confirm - find it and see what you've got.
i'll wait to hear back on the pump situation. as far as the filter goes, they are cheap and if you have any questions as to what condition it is in, then go ahead and change it.
