CT electrical problem

Not really a new member but so few posts and long time since I've logged in!
88 convertible dead battery, went to start via jump almost caught but lost all power. I assumed it was a main fuse. They are all ok. Pushed the circuit breakers and tried again. interior lights up. turn ignition key to acdcessory mode place foot on brake and interior lighs go off no power. Any clues dont reall know how to troubleshoot this. First time car has not started ever with good power source.
Thanks in advance!

how old is the battery?

make sure the terminals and ground are secure.

maybe try charging the battery first, before trying to start the engine.

Not using the battery at all. Hook up to jump directly to the cable terminals, open car door and have lights as soon as I turn the ignition key lights go dark...no start

You will want to install a good battery, ensure the terminals are clean and tight and go from there. Running the car off of a jumper he it another car or a jump pack is not a good idea whatsoever.

so my old battery was shorted or defective which is why I am trying to jump. I don't understand when hood up to 12v why the interior lights in the doors go on but as soon as I turn the key they go out. I will buy a neww battery but thing that migh not be helpful

Using just the jumper cables without a decent battery isn't enough amps to start a second cars.
