How did replacing the intercooler fix the alternator? I would have the alternator tested before anything else.

Good call on the alternator. I would take it off and have it tested ASAP.

My alternator broke down a while ago. Then my control panel went all christmas tree on me. If the battery was fully charged I could start and drive the car, but I never dared to do any long trips. When it first broke down I could drive 50-60 km (~80-90 miles) before it stalled.

You can measure the voltage over the battery while revving the enginge to ~3000rpm. Then the voltage should increase to 15-16 volts (should be 14V at idle), if it doesn't the alternator is very likely! This test doesn't required disassembly of the car.

You can also check if you have enough fluid in your battery.

I believe he means Integrated Circuit... IE, the Voltage Regulator.

Question IC integrated circuit

heyy thanks alot guys for the reply and yea when i said IC i meant the integrated circuit the device inside the alternator the electric gadget hehe.. and yea when i rev up to 3000rpm the battery shows 13.1V and at idle it does like 12V -12.5 sometimes not charging i have to rev it for it to charge if i keep the car in idle i think the battery mite start to drain thanks alot for helping me out evry1... n'd more news on the FD i recently wasted my clutch plate and pressure plate some noob driving ... i was just wondering how much should a standard tuned 1993 efini do in the quarter mile ? can u give me a break down cuz i have a feeling my cars is rellyy slowww thanks again ppl..

The alternator is not charging properly if all you're getting is 12-13.1V. Is a new alternator altogether out of the question for you (instead of just replacing the integrated circuit)?
