ECU related questions....

Hello group,

New/old member here.... Im new to the FC game and i have a question for the FC guru's in the forums.

I just recently bought a 1987 turbo II S4 with air flow meter set up. The FC that i bought has pretty much all the bolt-on stuff that i have always wanted for an FC. Racing beat full exhaust with RB downpipe, Hks power flow filter, and other things that are not related to the engine

My question is, is there a Plug-in JDM ECU for my S4? I know JDM ECU's have a more agressive timing curve due to higher octane use in Japan. Also I have not had the chance to see what type of ECU i have in my car, the car is still at my friends house undergoing repairs.

I've also read other things within the forum. Im curious what an RTEK ecu is? How does it enhance performance? What kind of power gains?

The Rtek seems like a good plug-in upgrade, aside from a JDM ECU.... Any kind of input would be greatly appreciated.

Haltech and Adaptronic seem to be popular choices.

Most importantly, a full exhaust on a stock fuel system will often overboost and can detonate. Stay out of full throttle until you verify the boost pressure. Port the turbo wastegate or keep a cat to keep it under control.

JDM ECU's are hit and miss. Wiring differences between US and JDM harnesses cause weirdness with stock ecu's with no performance benefit.
Tuning shop ecu's are custom for different injectors, fuel pressures, fuel grade. Unless you're using that specific combo, it won't be right and the exact requirements aren't always available.

RTEK (url[[url=http://digitaltuning.com/]Farewell | digital tuning, inc.] no longer converts ECU's, but they're available used. Ver 1.5 is a better fuel cut defender, it gets rid of fuel cut and pulls some timing above 8 psi. Ver 1.7 and 1.8 allows you to run higher boost and requires bigger injectors. It uses stock fuel and timing maps, except above 8 psi where it pulls timing to run safer. Ver 2.X are programmable timing and fuel, but don't usually show the same results as dedicated standalones. They're great for people that need to pass emissions tests.

Thanks for the reply, i would probably try to look for a rtek 1.5 in the near future 😊
