JDM Fuel Cut
JDM Fuel Cut
I've had a suspicion for a while that the JDM series 6 ECU tables are a bit different to those in the US models. For starters there are less emission control devices on the JDM models, and more importantly, there is no pre-cat.
Now everyone here preaches that a 12 or 13 psi boost on the stock ECU will fuel cut. I'm not doubting this, but I believe the JDM ECU behaves differently - actually, I have proof (assuming their boost logger was accurate, which I would expect for a 100+ grand piece of equipment): https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=404
I've been running with this 12-13psi spike for well over 6 months, and the engine is running as strong as ever.
However, I don't trust the wellbeing of my engine to just a single piece of evidence.
So, does anyone here know where the JDM ECU, specifically the series 6 model has it's fuel cut?
Sadly I'm sure this is all available on some japanese Rx7 forum, but I only speak English

It's quite possible the later JDM ECU's are more capable than the earlier '93-95 ECU's. I have a feeling Mazda learned their lesson and fixed the fuel maps to keep cars from becoming hand grenades.
But, at the end of the day, is it worth your motor? Get a PowerFC and you'll be in business.
I wouldn't go looking for fuel cut as a sign that you've ran out of ECU. A motor isn't worth it.

Whoops, just re-read your thread and looked at the post you linked to.
It's possible someone in Japanland tinkered with your ECU, it's VERY common. Are you sure you have a stock ECU?
I know the stock '92-95 JDM ECU's had fuel cut, that's why they did a good business on fuel cut defenders in the early days.
Regardless, it's time for a PowerFC. And some good silicone vacuum hose so your lines aren't popping off the pressure tank

Very good point about the re-mapping, I had not considered that at all. However, everything but the intake is stock, so I'm not too sure why they would have been inclined to re-map it (especially as it would have been an auto over in Japan, the manual conversion was done here in NZ). Definitely not re-mapped in NZ.
I'll try find time to have a peek at the ECU and see if I can find any traces of tampering. Things like the speed cut are still there! (hence the dyno run was done in 3rd gear
)
I'm on the fence about a PFC, they are common enough over here and we have some great rotary tuners, but I have no intention to do any more mods.
I'll head to some more dyno days when they come up and make a decision when I have enough data.
And yes, I'm after silicone hoses. But over here all I can find are bright blue or red ones. And I'm looking for the stock look. Might have to hit you up regarding your check valves though!

I think you can order from Hose Techniques, they should ship overseas. They have black silicone hose which works and fits beautifully.
Yeah, just let me know if you need some of my Viton check valves, I've got plenty in stock ready to ship out.
If you want to stay closer to stock, find a good chipped ECU, maybe one from the Japanese tuners. That will give some headroom and safety and might make a little more power for much less than a PowerFC. If you're keeping it close to stock, the PFC is somewhat overkill.
