SC cat guestion

So the exhaust on my 83 12a is completey stock and I'm thinking about stright pipeing the cat causei think it may be getting stopped up. My question is about how much louder will it make my car and will it hurt the power at any rpm or gas milage? Thank you

I would not recommend strait pipe its going to be annoyingly loud especially on longer drives on the interstate. Not sure the budget you are working with but I would suggest getting a RB presilencer and a muffler and then go to your local muffler shop and get them to put them up there for you the car will benefit greatly from the better flowing exhaust and actually should get slightly better mpg and a good bit more power.

no one seas anything about a cat delete what I was referring to was a presilencer and not a test pipe I am fully aware of the unbearable noise that a test pipe generates. I am also aware of the down falls of using a glass pack muffler since they cannot withstand the heat that a rotary engine produces hence burning them out in less than a weeks time.

Definately go with a presilencer. I bought my 7 straight piped and 1 day later I ditched that exhaust and got one on there with a pre-silencer. The cabin drone was unbearable under 5K RPM couldnt hear the passenger even when they raised their voice.

get the racing beat down pipe with the presilencer.
It doesn't make it too loud. You'll get nicer power at any rpm =]
and gas milage will be about the same or a tiny bit better.

Why not just get a high flow? its not ridiculously loud, you won't have to modify waste gate, you get more power then the stock cat.

And if emissions is something you don't wanna pay someone off for, you can still pass with it too
