Another smoking FC.......

So I recently bought my first RX-7 and it test drove just fine. I've had it a week now and after doing an oil change there is a lot of smoke when the rpms exceed about 4500. I have read a few threads and it appears there is a magic solution of AlumaSeal? My car leaks a little bit of oil (which I have heard is nothing to worry about with these cars) but I am very concerned that I could do massive damage if I continue to drive my car. Someone please help.

what oil did you use for the oil change?

oil seals cannot be repaired by additives but thicker oil will reduce the oil consumption and smoking by allowing less oil into the engine.

here is why(stolen pic from the 2nd gen section):

those are supposed to be rubber o-rings. original engines with 20 years of use the rubber gets brittle and fractures, allowing oil into the engine under certain situations. if it's turbo the turbine carbon seal may have deteriorated, similar cause and effect as above except the seals are metallic and have stuck or eroded. so if it's turbo you may just need a turbo rebuild, if its n/a then the engine is on it's last legs.

I used castrol 10-30 oil for the change and a new filter of course. Its a 2nd gen if that helps. I've read about oil filter pedastal causing leaks but when it smokes im pretty sure the smoke comes straight out of the exhaust pipes.

edited the post for more info, thicker oil such as 20W-50 will help to mask the issue for the time being and likely what the previous owner had in it.

Alright thanks, I'll try that. Im guessing the thicker oil will be less likely to leak into the engine at higher pressure?

yep, thinner oil will push past the seals easier to be burned inside the motor.
