Make sure the parking brake is on before trying to move the top. If it's on, you hear beeping, but the top still does not move, the sensor for it may be corroded/disconnected.

Please use punctuation in your posts. It's very difficult to read when it's all a run-on sentence.

I've never have to put the e-brake up before to move the top. But before when the top was all the way up and you tried to turn the **** to make it go up it wouldn't beep and the same goes for down , if it was all the way down and you turn the **** for it to go down it wouldn't beep but now its all the way up and you turn the **** to go up and it makes the beeping like it use to make when it was moving if that makes any sense

The parking brake has to be up to move the top up or down. It's a safety feature to prevent people from moving the top while driving. It's possible that someone has disabled the switch in order to get around this. There should be a switch that makes contact when the brake is up, then breaks contact when the brake is down. I haven't gone looking for it myself, but it's bound to be right in the center console/e-brake area.

Check the area out to see if someone has jumped any wires together, or messed with it in some way. Maybe their modification has failed.

Yes, I have an '88 convertible. The beeping is about 1 time per second with the e-brake on, and about 3 times per second with the e-brake off (and the top won't move). You can also check for the brake warning light on the dash. If it's not on with the brake on, the switch is not making contact.

ok so i finally made it home and checked the fuse and it was blown. i changed it the top works but i still do not have to have the ebrake engaged to lower or raise it. i looked all around the ebrake and i didnt see anything out of the ordinary. also i have read that allot of people are having rust issues with these cars i have not found any rust on this car yet and i have been all under neath it changing the clutch so maybe i got lucky with this car

This is interesting, I didn't know that was a feature. A guy down the street from me has a vert that wont go up, I'll have to talk to him
