400hp
400HP
this weekend I am going to look at 1994 FD, it is good shape, but it’s an automatic and the engine is bad.
The long-term goal would be manual with 400HP
I am looking for some one to scare me with how many thousands of dollars it would be to build this car?
How much to change to a manual trans
How much to build a engine that will handle 400HP
How much for all the go fast parts
I don’t want long list of cost, just some ruff numbers to scare me away from the car, or to make my offer low or I keep looking for a done car.

First off the car is an Automatic..so that is 2k to switch over.
then you start on Power bits..
Cheap and reliable are not 2 words that go together,so That is OUT.
How much do you intend on spending is really whether you want to buy the parts that just "look good" Or the ones that actually function correctly.
Throw a Number at you?..ok..$6k..EASILY..ECU,turbo,downpipe,wastegat e,full fuel system,intercooler system.Blow off valve,boost controller,Wideband..Shall I go on?
We haven't even touched the chassis yet.
Do you still have MONEY left?.....(lol!)
I think that is conservative.

And that's without having to convert to a 5 speed.
On a side note I'm curious...where are you guys pulling these hp figures from? Is it just arbitrary? Something you read? Some figure you think will be worth throwing out at the local parking lot meet?

Engine..again..who is going to build it..yourself?.someone else?.are you going to have to ship the engine to a builder and back?
What seals are you going to use?.What is it going to require?.just a soft seal kit?Total seal kit?..any parts needed?..internal bearings ok?..Rotors,E shaft..small parts..oil regulator,pump..Housings ok?..
So,Sooooo many factors on this.
This is why your question is a loaded one,So many unknowns come into play that it can't be answered with a direct Bang on Quote..
Pick a figure out of the air..just a minute......******..got one..$3k..and UP.
It may be wise to get a list and start your research into parts and prices, then get the trusty calculator out..As honestly, things start adding up..Quickly..
If you have a big pile of money it will be a small one by the time you finish.
If you have little money, you will either Be REAL broke or take a while to achieve any progress as it will eat your budget anyways.
Now a "done car" as you put it May be an option ...BUT is it done RIGHT?..is the owner being upfront or just getting rid of it...
a Modified RX7 will never sell at what the owner has IN it.The car loses value, and is NOT an Investment..
If you have the time you can build the car without killing yourself and your bank account. You can buy USED and save a fortune..BUT if you are Building "as NEW" then see you in line at the Food stamp place..(cars on here with 30K in them, and still not done)
I can't afford that step..my FC is 8 years in the making..and I am not done yet..
5 k under the hood, and the engine isn't even "fresh rebuild".

Close with parts and shipping. Need to soure pedals, 5 spd harness, clutch, PP, throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, drive-shaft and probably new motor mounts while your at it. Now double it if you don't do the work yourself.
As mentioned in that link, you'll need alot of stuff for that hp level. $6k is a start. Again, ALOT more money if you're unable to do it all yourself. Plus tuning.
$3k is a start and depends on the condition of your current engine. New housings? ~$1300. You'll need porting but not sure how much that is these days...probably another $400 to $500 with shipping.
And everything is dependent on having certain supporting cooling mods in place....radiator, new hoses, dual oil coolers etc.
Scared yet?
This might help with more info. GT35R would put you close to that stated level.
