Question whats the best way to make 400hp on stock ports?

hey every1,
My goal for my FD is 400hp. And i am definitely going to go single turbo in the future, but of course this is new to me so im wondering what u think the best way to make 400hp on stock porting? I was considering a t04s or a garrett GT35/40 since i have heard good things about both. Lemme know what u would run.

I have made 470RWHP on a stock S4 block and intake manifold with a Turbonetics T66 on 20 PSI But for all day every day driving on 16 PSI I made 402RWHP ......... hope this helps.

so the basic idea is to get a smaller sized turbo running @ high PSI instead of a large turbo like a T78 or a t51-KAI running @ a lower PSI but taking a long time to spool?

get a turbo that will flow your target level of air at peak efficiency, not just big or small. you have to look at the compressor maps.

so what is your application goign to be? Depending on your application it'll be easier/harder to make 400rwhp.

The easiest way is to probably get a T78, use C16 race gas, and boost at 20psi, that'll get you 400rwhp.

GT3540 Stock ports @15 PSI should get you 400 rwhp no problem.

Question is where to find it, how much is it and who is going to rebuild it for you when it goes?

regarding the gt 35/40 i dont think its a guarantee that you'll get 400rwhp @ 15psi with stock ports. It depends a lot on who tunes it, and what octane gas you have for pump gas. You'll be somewhat close but its not for sure (@15psi that is) and I dont think you want to lean your car out just to make the expected. Good Luck tho, if you want to be sure to make 400+rwhp @15psi get the T-78, but if you like BB turbos and faster spool up go with the 35/40. I dont think you'll regret either choice.

you can get 400 RWHP out of almost any single turbo. How much boost do you plan to run to get it? How much money you want to spend? What are you goin to do with the car. a T-78 will easily make that power on a stock motor.

my car will be my daily driver with occasional autoX'ing. So i want to keep it streetable (which rules out a massive turbo like a T78 or T51 KAI). I am also infatuated with the V-mount setup. So any other opinions?

I make 400RWHP with the GT35/40 Spools quick compared to larger turbos that are capable of same or more HP. Dual ball bearing cartridge. Garrett GT series Turbos are top shelf components. Make sure if you get the Garrett get the 1.06 A/R exhaust. You should be right at 400 RWHP@15psi with similar set-up as mine. I made 404.2 RWHP on a stock reman motor with this turbo. I am now installing a Street Ported motor that i hope will make close to 450 RWHP@15 psi. The GT35/40 comes in a smaller A/R .86 as well so you would get full use of your low end power for AutoX. It will still make 400 hp but probably not at the same boost as the larger 1.06 A/R.

the v-mount from rotary extreme i *believe* is most efficent around 15-16psi. not 100% sure on that. How long will it take to get 15psi on the 1.06 a/r one? btw, what does a/r stand for? im a newb to singles.

At 20psi I made 474rwhp on a bone stock reman with the SR Motorsports KKK stage 2 (Holeset). Ran a best of 10.73@128mph at the same boost.

Its sold by SR Motorsports and its actually a holeset turbo. Ray just calls it a KKK to market it as his own creation. It is a nice turbo.

I am shooting for 400whp on a stock s5 t2 block at 15-18lbs on 91 gas with a to4s. I have seen plenty of 400+whp with a to4s at that boost, but not on a stock block.
