Coolant header tank necessary

I have a 13B aftermarket turbo conversion. The cooling system doesn't have a header tank.

Is there a good reason for not having a coolant header tank?

What is my best option - leave as is or fit coolant header tank?

Thanks for any help.

Ian
ps apologies if this has already been asked, search isn't working for me

If you are talking about a coolant overflow reservoir then YES it is needed.

What happens is the coolant gets hot, expands, builds up pressure..the cap opens up to relieve pressure and the Expanded coolant goes to the overflow..
When it cools down the coolant goes from that reservoir and back into the system.

It is known as a "give and take" system..

If you do not have that Reservoir, the system will bleed coolant then not be able to get it back since it is now on the ground, most likely.
Then the system will heat up ..have air..get hot and eventually overheat due to lack of a full cooling system.
