Just a few more months before I get to take my car our of the garage! Didn't get a change to take it for a full tune-up after I bought it, and it's the first thing I'm planning to do once spring comes. What do you guys recommend as far as local rx7 specialty shops? Synaptic3 seems to be one of the only options, does anyone have experience with them, or other recommendations?

Thanks!

best bet is to learn how to do your own work and when you get to a point you cant do it your self find a shop.

heck i replaced all bushing, ball joints, end link's, re-speed front sway bar, shocks, alt, pulleys, full exhaust, custom ignition system, with 3 coils and 3 ignitors, stereo, custome bracket around the radio to hold water temp/oil temp/oil pressure gauges. swaped my 1980 85mph cluster for a 135mph 1979 cluster. plus tons more. thats just on my rx7 plus all the custom work ive done on the 2.3 turbo capri iam building you. mind you before i started on these two cars i never even changes a set of plugs. o yeah i did all this with hand tools a drill press and a dremal. in a tent with 4 jack stands in the middle of the winter.

trust me youll **** bricks on how much you wasted after paying for a tune up, think most good shops charge 80$+ a hour. you got fuel injection so it makes it much much much easier to do then on my sa with a carb. just buy new plugs, wires. rotor cap if you have a dizzy, fuel filter. some sea foam, fuel injector cleaner and a few misc parts. heck ill even help you do it for free.if i get to drive you car around the block. ill even let you drive my rx8. i cant wait for a meet so you guys can check it out and i really wants you guys to see the capri. the only hard part of doing this stuff is getting rid of the fluids legally.

now all my buddys call me up to Change there oil do break jobs, ect ect. dont mean to sound like a dick or any thing figure id help you save some cash.

i think me and andy/andrew the black fc giving me the finger..... are the only ones keeping a rx7 and still post. gen dont count since he sold his fd and moving with his new/old TII. gen your asain drive a import and moving to redneck vill didnt you watch top gear.lol.

side note if you want a good shop to work on your car try my uncles shop, little foreign car garage. every thing he does is flat rate and to the hours of alldata. ie if alldata says a a break job is a 1 hour job and they take 4 hours cause your bolts are rusted on you get charged 1 hour. just dont drop my name my brother worked there and my buddy worked there and both quit so my side of the family are black sheep. or you can go where i go in stoneham. http://www.lfcg.com/

gotta love it when a Stage 4 tuned WRX swap with STi Pinks and a Walbro 255lph with an APS SR30 Turbo and no cats passes the emissions test for a 1.8litre N/A

Hey man, thanks for the post. I'm sure as the years start to go by I'll gain enough experience to do all the maintainance myself. I'll take you on your offer, but not for this first inspection. I bought the car on a gamble almost (bought it out of state), didn't really have any inspection except for a mazda technician tune-up (which didn't really cover the things I'd actually be worried about). I'm lucky the car is pretty much brand new and doesn't have any severe issues. I don't know, I guess paying for something makes it seem more thorough--but also a part of my stupidity.

Anyway, hope to get to know you local guys. BBQ!

out of curiosity, anyone know the MA laws concerning a side-exit exhaust? I'm not gonna put a Stingray 'Vette bazooka tube, just thinking of routing the downpipe and muffler to exit in front of the passenger rear wheel after i swap my t2 in. i at least know it has to exit behind the passenger window for safety reasons against exhaust inhalation, but is it at all legal in MA? granted the car will be drag use mainly, but when i take it on an occasional ride....dont wanna be pestered by po-po

All I know is, Mass. stopped doing emissions tests for pre-OBD cars either in 2007 or 2008. My FC only got tested for safety. I think you still need a cat for it to be street legal (anyone know this one? Bueller? Bueller?), but at least you won't have to worry about it failing a sniffer test. They may get you for noise, however, if the side-exit is too loud, so keep that in mind when you're building it.

As for aftermarket, I doubt the inspection station will care, but the cops will, IF you're driving like a jackass. I mean, you're driving a bright red FC. You hoon it, and they'll get you for anything.

If you're that worried, there are exhaust diverters available that can route exhaust along two different paths (say, a side-exit and the stock exhaust). Or, you could hack up an old stock exhaust and put just the mufflers in the stock location to sleeper it, the take them out when you reach the dragstrip.

The cops will pinch you for just about anything aftermarket, but I think CARB-certified go-fast parts are OK. Anything I get with CARB-certification, I plan on leaving the CARB certificate in the glovebox. Then pray the cops will at least subtract those from my fix-it ticket.

meh, i paid 60 for my inspection sticky. 29 for the paperwork, 31 for him to look the other way lol. corksport headers with a punched cat and apexi n1 are donned on my ride and yes bright red makes it that much worse. havent been yanked yet for noise, surprisingly enough, and ive got a nasty exhaust leak goin too, so yeah i play it cool and push the clutch in passing a cop, so as i roll by him, i sound quieter than i really am lol

Keep all Carb stickers . Ikeep them on the under side of the hood. It will be legal if u have cat and muffler. Needs to exit behind driver. That if ur car is 94 older import and 95 us make ore obd II

ill definitely have a cat and muffler, an opened downpipe is like tattooing "pull me over" on my forehead haha but does it have to be the drivers side? i kno it has to exit behind the door, rear most door in a 4door etc., but is it legal at all whatsoever?

as long as it has cats muffler, exits behind the last window that can be open, and isnt too loud it should be fine.
