this is my first rotary and it seems that everything i know about piston engines is crap now. thanks.
It's not ALL crap. troubleshooting a lot of things is similar. Anything sensor/afm related transfers over fine.

Tuning on the other hand is a whole different ball game.

the only issue is that its not really drivable... it barely made it around the block and i shouldn't have driven it that far. it doesn't have plates and the exhaust needs to be replaced.

i've driven riding lawnmowers with more power and throttle response

anyone have an opinion on tein s tech springs?

feel free to hit me up on chat.

yeah, I just checked the site... I've never heard of anybody getting those I would probably put a little bit more money into and get better ones if it was me.

I'm not sure if he has stockers ready to go or not, he has some on a car though.

you can't really get any good CAIs for RX-7s.... you pretty much just have to make them yourself.

how necessary is the aluminum box at the end of the plastic intake hose. i know it has wires coming out of it but it really doesn't look like any sensor i've ever seen.

The MAF? Uhhh, it's pretty important, unless you get an aftermarket ECU (hint hint Megasquirt)

It regulates as well as measures the amount of air getting into your intake so it can add fuel accordingly....

I wouldn't say regulates, but it definitely restricts

Oh, and it's not a MAF, it's an AFM... usually when people say MAF they're referring to the hotwire/screen type (MAF = mass air flow, it actually measures the mass of the incoming air, AFM = Air flow meter, it's just got a flapper that moves further when more air goes in. It KINDA measures how much air goes in, but doesn't tell the ECU air density info, which is where the air temperature sensor comes in)

But yeah, DAK is right, you take that off, and you have a non-running car unless you get an ECU with a MAP sensor. (MAP = Manifold absolute pressure, doesn't measure how much air is going into the engine, it measures load on the engine, then a formula is used to figure out how much fuel to put into the engine based on air temp, fuel table, MAP and some other things).

Did a street tune on the vert last night and man it finally drives like stock again under 3500 rpms off boost. My LM1 wideband is worth its weight in gold. We got most of my readings to 14.1 afrs all thru 900-3200 ish rpms. The borla did deepen the tone of the car at idle but at 3k its still loud as hell.

You could buy this eBay gem. I especially like this part of the description:

The Hi-Flow Air Filter has a "Ram Air" opening on the top, which creates a vortex that swirls the air, increasing it's speed into the Intake.
