no, jason just said that I didn't really need to diconnect it, and he said it was going to be a pain in the butt to set right again.

 

It's not hard to set at all... even for the Megasquirt. Just set the engine as close to TDC as you can get it... ( set it to the 5 ATDC mark on the pulley), set the megasquirt to -5 fixed advance so it doesn't use the spark table... (or retard really) with a 60 degree trigger angle, and the triggers/returns to 1,3 and 7,9... then look at your cas with the lid off... find the tooth to the right of one of the teeth on the two tooth wheel... it doesn't matter which... that'll be tooth 1. Count to tooth 3, line that tooth up with the 2 tooth vr sensor (if you look at the other side of the cas... the 3rd tooth to the left of the 24 tooth vr sensor will be lined up with its sensor as well). Now stab the CAS in and make sure that alignment stays. Start the car up, and use a timing light to get the 5 deg mark to line up right, tighten the CAS, and you're set. Reset fixed advance to -10 (which makes it use the map) and you're REALLY set.

I'd recommend setting the leading ignition up with trailing turned off ... then turn on trailing after you set the timing.

Jason: why do you think it's so hard to set? It took me literally 5 minutes to get the wheel decoder working with the stock CAS on your car, and most of that time was running the wires to the megasquirt and soldering in the connector. Actually setting the timing shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes. Oh, and you really DO need to take out the CAS to set it up for megasquirt, because you'll need to get it in the engine one tooth off from what the stock setup is (on the CAS drive gear inside the engine I mean).

No, it took me a couple of hours to get the HEI set up right when we were using that, and it took me a couple of tries to get the pull-up resistors the right values...

Actually putting in and aligning the CAS took less than 5 minutes. I did it when you weren't home that saturday morning of the disasterous drive to fudds. The problems we had that day had nothing to do with the stock CAS, they had to do with using the stock ignitor with pull-up resistors that were too low of a resistance.

After I put in the CAS, the car fired up on the first try no problem. And that was after 5 minutes of running wires and aligning the CAS.

 

Jason. Wanna go up to Myk's this Sunday? I'm gonna steal some Aluminium stock from work and we'll make a custom Wastgate actuator bracket for his T-04...

I'm thinking 1/8th inch or maybe 5/32 inch thick... 6061-T6 should take the heat. Nevermind that it's gonna be bolted to the cold side.

I'll be home all day that day most likely building/modding megasquirts for customers.

I may not be a big fan of putting turbos in my own cars... and I may not think they're the only way to go, but I still like seeing stuff I haven't seen before.

 

yeah it is something all should see because its just a work of art. the FREE porting that Precision did for me to the front cover is worth the price of emission alone. I am really intrested in seeing how much of a upgrade this new cover is over the standard "S". I have heard conflicting statements. I have heard that you get 200-300 rpm more of lag which is ok if it gives more top end to 7500 rpms. I also heard it sounds like a jet engine spooling up which might be just a must have for cool points when I am passing their car. If their girlfriend has to wonder if their is a jet engine in that little car that just smoked her mans z06 I am cool with that. Also I will be running this at 15lbs until my water injection kit is installed and then running 20-25 as long as I have traction. BDC is doing a tuning session in NC in about 3 weeks and I hope my stuff is ready for that. Might have a "install a full t04 day" at Dans shop. Might be fun for all us rotards to slap a snail on and drink beer/soda

Basically it's a much faster chip with a lot more room for growth but the code on it is nowhere near as feature filled or as advanced as the msns-extra...

I'm going to start porting stuff to it from msns-extra, but it probably won't be usable for a few months, and not stable for much longer.
