I'm slightly reluctant to recommend Mr.Spoiler after a few things...
After the Summer 2017 MPV wreck, I really wish he woulda quoted more time on frame/body pulling to total out the damn thing... Especially considering the weld work necessary to reattach the rear tow hook where the trailer hitch ripped it out. https://imgur.com/a/M3ZIF
I also wish he woulda quoted more time on metalwork on the rear quarter of my 2007 Nissan Altima that was sideswiped. Instead a **** ton of body filler was used. The body filler later cracked and started falling off.
His prices are good, paintwork is also good, but I think the shop lacks metalwork skills.
Wow.
It's been over 10 years since they did work for me, I'm surprised to hear about the excessive body filler. Did you take it back for warranty repair?
I remember when my FC was hit Dan told me it wasn't worth having painted but they would do it if I wanted to bring it back.
Dan sprayed my wing and front bumper and i thought he did a great job matching the paint color. No experience with body work though
and FWIW, i took my M3 to Collision Specialists in FFX after it got hit twice last winter. They had trouble matching the bumper paint, but resprayed it no questions asked (they said it should not have left as it did). I would recommend them. They aren't cheap tho. Repair was just barely shy of a total.

I hope it had sentimental value or something.

I didn't bring it back because it was hit a 2nd time, after I said I was gonna sell it.
This Altima has a curse on it or something.
My mother-in-law owned it before we did. She was hit twice in it.
The CarFax has two collisions on its history before she owned it.
I was hit twice in it.
Since owning it, I've been rear ended three times in the Excursion in the past year.
Two of the three times, Insurance has paid out. Third one I'm still deciding on taking legal action on.
I had a great experience with Mr Spoiler with my RX-7 in 2010 and a much less than stellar one in 2016 with my brand new at the time Mazda3. (Talk about cursed - that brand new car got into 3 accidents in 3 months, including a sandwich rear-ender on 95 (none my fault) - but nothing since. Knocking on wood) I’d be happy to divulge further at a meet.
Saying that, I’m out in the garage clay-barring the FD (Mr Spoiler’s handywork) right now and all I have to say is the before and after hand stroke is incredibly addicting. Can’t stop doing it! This clay bar is no joke. Need to do it more often but I’m so lazy. And it’s so hot. Definitely won’t have energy to get to my wheels Rocky.
Keep in mind, that as with smart money management and proper investments Mr. Spoiler could have expanded his shop, got good folks to work for him, supervise them and do only certain special jobs or high end car. He is not that guy, he is hands on, so 10+ Years later, he is still in the same place with 1-2 other guys and some repeat customers. That should speak for itself. Lots of folks that brought their cars in that are picky decided NOT to continue business with his shop as his prices are higher for quality of other shops in the area. With special case cars we tend to want perfection and I moved to another shop that I love and referred over 10 folks with great results every time.

It's not like I brought in anything special either. I brought in a 2003 Mazda MPV minivan with close to 200K miles on the clock and a 2007 Nissan Altima that I said I was gonna sell soon.
I'm definitely sure he didn't put his best people on it and I'm sure they didn't do their best work on it. I didn't ask for their best. I just needed them to look a'ight.
My experiences should be taken with a grain of salt. I essentially asked for cut rate services.
Anyone with experience with an upholsterer in the area?
im looking to recover my seats with new leather from Redlinegoods and want to make sure it gets installed correctly. Thanks!

Soooo, at this point you are just planning on buying new wheels right?

W0lf - Since you got crickets it's safe to assume no one else has gone about getting their upholstery done. Sorry I can't be of much help either. I do need some work done on my seats too though so if you find a good place please post it up.

I haven't personally used them, and they are in the Baltimore area, but you might want to look up ESH Upholstery. I believe they are/were a vendor on the forum. Here's a link to their old intro post on the forum:
If the leather seat skins from Redlinegoods are similar to the ones I got for my S5T2 from Leatherseats.com, you might want to reconsider this as a DIY project. It's really not all that difficult to do - just takes some time & patience, and pretty basic mechanical skills. When I did mine, I had zero experience doing anything with upholstery and they came out perfect.
Anybody wanna come by mine in a few weeks to drop a motor in my FD with me? I just got an email from Jen :2cute: that they'll be ready to take my car at the end of the month ^_^
Ideally I'll be able to hit up the spring cruise next year and DGRR using... (wait for it).... an actual rotary!!
I know! I was planning on texting you and Ian after I got off work today to see if ya'll would be down to come help
Bud Light Lime for you still?
We've been surprisingly busy recently!! I got federalized a few months ago and that COMPLETELY changed my schedule! I'm now out of the house by 4:45am every day and I'm not getting home until like 6:15pm at the earliest! Weekends go by way to ******* fast.. We've got so much stuff to do, but not much time to get it done
It doesn't help that Bianca will start a Masters program later this month AND she had to go and get knocked up.. We'll have zero time come February! lol
Well, no I never was a Bud Light Lime, I am a Cider kind of guy and Strongbow is a good brand.
Sounds like that what, what in the butt did not work out for you.
On the side note, I am also busy during the day and don't get home until later in the evening after 7-8pm
Weekends are good in the evenings, this way you can take care of the farm stuff during the day and come after 6 or so we can spend a couple hours getting the engine in and the drinks down.
Wait, really? I thought I remembered you bringing it over with you. Maybe that was Sy (sp?) who preferred it. Either way, I don't really drink (at all) anymore but I'll absolutely be picking up refreshments for you guys as thanks!
Yeah, it was bound to happen eventually!! It actually kinda works out, since she'll be needing to stop work for the little one anyway she might as well double that up with getting her grad degree. She can watch it during the day, and I'll take over in the afternoon/evenings. That way her absence from work can be justified by college, and she can roll right back into it once she's done!
Yeah, any time during the weekends work for me honestly. I picked up a window AC unit for the garage that's surprisingly effective!! So even in the middle of the day it's not too bad in there. Unfortunately there isn't space in the garage to drop the motor in while keeping the doors closed though I'd almost prefer to get the engine in before the sun goes down though, it'll be a bit warmer but at least the light won't attract every mosquito in the county!
I think I'll shoot to put the engine in on the 17th, I've already paid for a track day up at Summit Point on Friday the 16th and I probably won't be getting home from that until around dinner time. So unfortunately starting on Friday probably won't be viable.
PM/DM me not to spam the crowd, but yeah, it should take under 2hrs all in. So start 6, it gets dark from 8:30-9pm and you have the engine hoist already at your place so should be good.
I would but i am out for a hot minute. Smashed my left middle finger tip bad between some pavers on a roof top. Go tomorrow to find out if I will keep it, or cut it off. Then next Thursday I get my shoulder scoped to find and fix it. Needless to say I am going to be a hurt puppy for a bit.
And holy ****!! That sucks man! Duuuuudddeee... I'm sorry to hear that, you're getting lined up for the suck! Well **** man, I hope they're able to sort out the finger in such a way that you won't look odd using it to flick off shitty drivers! Wait, what do you mean by having your shoulder scoped?
But yeah, I can imagine that you'll be out for the count! You know you're more than welcome to come down even if it's simply to hang out, supervise, and have a beer! I know Bianca would love to hang out with "James" again
I did a partial tear of my biceps tendon earlier in the year, throw in issues with my rotator cuff . Finally got the doc to agree something isn't right with it. He is going to scope it and clean up fix anything he finds in there. Good and bad part is its my left side. I get the double wammy of rehabbing both at the same time.
This is a thread for the members in the DC area. I've seen other threads for other locations and figure we need one of our own. It is intended to act as a centralized thread to help organize everything going on. A place for the members nearby (or willing to drive to get here) to post meet-ups and to converse with each other. This is a social thread intended to build a closer knit community in our area.
Feel free to make another thread specifically for an event in the NE Forum and post a link to it here. This will allow us all to be subscribed to this thread and get notifications when a local event is planned. The event does not need to be exclusively for club members, if you are a member in another forum or another group and your event is open to Rx-7s as well feel free to post it. You can include local track days, autocross events, drag racing, fun runs, tech days, go karting, etc. Basically, anything that you are doing with your 7 that you want more people with 7s to enjoy as well.
I’d just like to say I’m in the nova area (Alexandria va) and am very new to scene, where can I find someone to tune my fc

Hey Frank, welcome to the area and RX-7's!! Honestly I'm not aware of any rotary specific tuners local to the DC area. What ECU do you have? That will be the first thing to clarify since some people are good with one computer but not familiar with others. In the past I would travel up to Frederick, MD for tuning but that shop went under in a fiery mess several years ago. There is a shop called Speed1 up in Pennsylvania that has a dyno and there used to be some pretty competent tuners there. I'm not sure who they have now though or if it's worth a shot. Going further north you have IRP in New Jersey.
Also, there is a rx7 shop down near Virginia Beach called Angel Motorworks (or something like that). I've heard mixed reviews about them but I don't have any personal experience with them so I won't speak kindly or poorly about them.
I'm probably not a good person to ask though, I'm a bit off when it comes to my car: I let it sit for 7 years in my garage after losing a motor and now I'm about to tow my FD out to California to have work done to it then I'll be flying a guy up from Florida to tune it once I've finished the break-in.
Note, I think ESH is out of business, they went into something else.
On the paint front, everyone talked up Mr. Spoiler years ago, he was never cheap, he did my plateless '99 front bumper and I have to say, mixed results. It's an aftermarket part, but still it wasn't fitted super well IMO, despite the claim of tons of time having gone into it, and the paint decidedly didn't match. Silver is tough.
However, D&V Autobody did my '99 wing (flawless), and, they did my sunroof shave which included cutting/welding/bonding in a whole new OE roof skin, and painting down through the quarter panel, and I defy you to see where they did it, even from the inside with the roof liner off... and the match on ten year old silver paint is flawless.

Well that’s too bad lol, any rotary specific or rx7 specific car clubs around here?

Honestly I'm not the person to ask regarding local car clubs. I'm a grumpy hermit when it comes to social gatherings!!
We *do* have a spring and fall meet up and cruise between the folks in this regional subforum though. Rocky (He's on Toroids) usually hosts it and herds the cats for it. We'll meet up in the morning at an ihop in Gainesville before heading west towards the Blue Ridge Mountains and up Skyline Drive, have lunch in Front Royal and then make further decisions from there
