VA Beers and Clutch Swapping in Alexandria sometime soon? :)

I pickedup a NA 91 Vert from a neighbor and have had fun nursing it back into drive able condition. The original clutch is giving out and I'm planning to swap it out.

I don't think it looks like a super hard job but it's always easier to have an extra pair of hands and if anyone's in the area it would be nice to do it with another RX7 owner in the area.

Happy to supply beer and pizza while you jeer and throw motor oil at me while laughing at my expert skilz..

Cool. I'll order my clutch kit. Also last minute suggestions?

I'm planning to get an exedy OEM.. I'm not looking to rip hard on it.. Decent price for this? I have always ordered from FCP and have store credit.

-Exedy oem replacement clutch kit for $198.80
-Exedy Stage I Sport Kit $391.50
-Competition Clutch Stage II Sport $399

I really can't see needing a stage 1 but might do it if would last longer.

Throw out bearing and pilot bearing. Will need to rent a pilot bearing remover. Also since your in there changing the front and rear main seals on the tranny along with the tranny fluid are good ones to do. Can of PB blaster to help with stuck bolts, New rubber exhaust hangers if the ones on there are original. Again not needed but since your doing the clutch might as well. Then don't have to worry later on.

With the clutch stock is just fine. If you are not planning to do anything more than N/A then it will last long enough and not give any trouble.

Almost forgot sand paper for the flywheel. "Best" practice is pull the flywheel and have it spun just like a brake rotor. But not needed if it isn't too badly scored etc.

Thanks again to DgtlWar and jl1rx7 for the offers to hang out and jeer my as I attack my clutch rebuild.

I am waiting for the clutch kit to arrive today. I'm planning to go rockclimbing at Great Falls tomorrow (you guys would be welcome!) but thought I might break down the Rx7 on Sunday 8/25 if you guys are available. Not in a rush but would be nice to bang it out and don't think it'll take more than a few hours. If you guys are good I'll pb the bolts and maybe get it up on jacks and start tearing it down.

I'll pm you my number or emails and we can coordinate? Here's my package (couldn't find the rear seal for the tranny, don't have the pilot bearing remover (so will ask maybe at Advance?), and will need to pick up some sandpaper at Home Depot.

Here was my package from FCP

Thanks again Steve and Jack!

Note to anyone doing the tranny removal anytime soon, we thought we could get away without removing the exhaust from the manifold and move the tranny around the exhaust. You can't..

Also anyone who's done the needle bearing inserts, would appreciate thoughts on how much force is typically needed to get the bearing seated. We were using a hammer slider and having trouble getting it to seat deeply enough.

To be continued..
