"The M2R is based on the M4, which is a fairly old ECU. Its a good value for people with simple 2-rotor applications, but isn't in the same class as any of the newer, more powerful ECUs available on the market. Plus, once you add all the options you'd typically want such as Lambda and Logging, the value diminishes a bit.

Still, being a MOTEC, you know its a stable, well-designed unit which will make injecting the motors its designed for easy!"

I would have just gone with the m600. If you read though all of the Mx00 series motec units can control a rotary, on;y thier optiosn are more advanced and I imagien the ecu chip is more powerful as well. Especially if it isnt plug n play, what the point right?

the m600 is up around $3k for just the ECU itself, no harness.
This thing is half the price w/ the harness

it was mostly about the right product at the right price. I am on stock turbo at this point(big turbo in the works) , and I am happy to have an ECU that is strictly for 2Rotor. Before I found out my engine harness was fried, I was going to use Rtek, so I'd say this is quite the upgrade.

oh, BTW, i got some pix of the install. Here is part one of the Motec install.

Funny, for the price of this thing, you think they'd give some mounting options. But we had to fab this little bracket for it.

I used velcro to mount mine to an AL panel, works great.

Ah forgot.. Fd's don't mount to the floorboard, mines in the kickpanel. Haven't had any problems thus far though.

so i am looking to buy the sensors i need to run my engine, and some clips (inj). It seems that I've gotta buy the set from motec. it seems a little pricey but i suppose they add up.

I'm working on installing an M2R in my 1st gen. Below are some pics. As for the sensors, you can get them at a few other locations such as DIYAutoTune.com for substantially less than buying from MoTeC.

Regarding mounting brackets, I made mine out of aluminum L stock (see the 3rd pic). They attach to the ECU through the case screws at each end. This setup is very simple to make, mounts the unit securely, and makes the ECU easy to install / remove.

Thanks. That little stuff can really nickel and dime you to death. Since I have more time than money, I do a lot of checking around. Believe it or not, eBay is also a good source for some of this stuff if you know exactly what you need.

I'm hoping to get my engine running this coming weekend then dyno tune it on April 4th. I'll keep you posted.

MegaSquirt. Autotune is a joy to use.

Also the Wolf autotune software is close to being done I think, Haltech has autotune software (though not publicly released last I heard) and Microtech is working on the same thing...

Couldn't get my engine started. Had fuel, had spark, didn't have compression. I knew the engine was marginal when I installed it, but some seals must have stuck during the year it sat in my garage. I pulled the engine & I'm about to send it off for a rebuild -- probably for the best in retrospect, but I was trying to save $$.

Setting Initial Timing with M2R

I came up with this procedure after talking with MoTeC West. I think it will work to get the engine running, since the timing light did confirm. Interestingly enough, my "better" Actron timing light didn't work, while my neighbor's el cheapo light did.

Setting Initial Timing with M2R:

1. Set pulley to 5ATDC mark (the first one)
2. Insert distributor by aligning marks at gear end.
3. Once installed the dissy should look like the image below
4. Set rotary split in ignition table to 5.0 around the area in question.
5. Connect timing light to T1 and align the 5ATDC mark with the pointer.
6. Leading Timing will now be set to TDC.
7. Be sure the CRIP is set to zero.
