Yes, I had a problem with my laptop, too -- XP also. What worked for me was deleting the software and reinstalling. Do you have the correct MoTeC cable? You may need the cable with the chip in it, depending on your wiring. If it's wired like the M4 diagram on the MoTeC site, you'll need the RS232 MKIII cable which has a chip in the ECU connector, available from MoTeC.

I remember reading about particular USB adapters not working. I believe they reccomended a certain model from radioshack. Check their site.

I've never experienced that, but I would try what elwood said.

I think you're going to regret buying those DIS-4's.

To the OP...is your car running yet?

i got the radio shack brand serial to USB adapter (like the motec website suggests). It works fine now. Although, I am still having problems with the software crashing when we close it.

I am still hopnig to get some ideas on what to do with the EGT sensor. How can I get it to read on the gauge and the ecu???

Hey RETed. the car isn't running just yet. its real close tho. Hopefully by the end of the day.

ya, the phoenix!

all the gauges i got from this guy came with a reading on them. seems like what ever system he has them hooked up to went bye-bye. Once I sent a little current to em, they all relaxed.

I thought it was kinda weird too...

So how do i get my ecu and gauge to read off the same probe?

here is what i need to hook up the egt to the motec... http://webstore.o2simulator.com/inde...WPROD&ProdID=2

We've got the wideband feeding to the gauge and the ecu. it was pretty simple, just one wire that jumps over to motec from the AEM gauge.

The car is running. Its rich and the acccelorator is REAL touchy. We still need to adjust that. Over the next 3-5 days, we'll be tuning the car through all gears and load. But it is running and drivable.

We figured out the auto-tune feature this weekend. Its pretty slick. We input the desired AFR and it adjust the injectors accordingly.

well that's about the slickest marketing scheme I've ever heard of. that **** is SO SLICK, I;m gonna have to purchase it now!!! I am a consumer *****

Tuned with turbo hooked up tonight. With the wastegate rod disconnected we pushed 20 lbs of boost!!! that seems to create a whole new category of problems/challenges

Bacically, I am gonna just have to stay off the throttle in 4th/5th gear. Boost gets up there and the only way to really fix it, is to go big turbo.

We tune the car a coulpe times a week, just refining the maps and getting used to the way the Motec "thinks".

Pulls great under boost, no more than 12 AFR.
Water temps stay at 190 no matter what.
Its a little fat down low, in 1st and 2nd.
A little lean at crusing, in 3rd.

Start up and idle need some tweaking, but this ecu is pretty impressive. We are adjusting the start up and boost maps by pulling or adding timing.

We have also located the cold start assist menu. Not sure how to adjust it, but we're getting there.

thought ya'll might be interested in the HD racing wire wrap I got!!

It's called strech and seal. It's only 6 bucks a role, and took 3 (would've been nice to have 4) roles.

Usually, Turblown uses the military grade version of this. It isn't much different, but WAY more expensive. I also wrapped a little fiberglass tube around the section above the turbo.

Now my harness is safe.... AAAAAAHHhhhhhh...

my map sensor is defective. looks like I'll be calling Motec today.
It seems to be off by about 6 psi. We knew something was up when the map sensor was saying 280 kpa. At idle, the map sensor was saying I was at 6 psi...?!?!?!??

If you're at 6 psi at idle, then it is off more than that since you're in vacuum. Have you checked to make sure that the sensor input was setup correctly??

No -- not running yet, but not because of the DIS-4s. I had no compression, pulled the motor, disassembled it, found that I had corrosion breaching into the rotor chambers from the coolant passages in both the front and rear irons. The water in the rotor chambers caused the side seals to stick in their grooves. I've replaced all the irons and rotor housings, used oversize studs and streetport, new rotor seals, and I'm about to put it all back together again.

What's to regret with the DIS-4s? I know that ignition cut on the ECU will be interpreted by the DIS-4s as low RPM, which will cause them to multi-strike (bad), so I have limited it to fuel cut only, per MoTeC's recommendation.

2a+ron, the map sensor was fine. we just had to set it correctly through the ECU.
thanks.

It's running pretty well. we got the boost under control by adding another muffler. seeing 10 psi max.

ya, the stock coils have ignotors attached to them. I didnt realize until i really inspected the coil. So you have to have an MSD box (like the 6A) in order to run the MSD coils.

I tried using the stock ignitor on the msd coils, but the leading coil is only ONE coil. That ignitor isn't strong enough to run two MSDs.

I picked up a stock coil (used) just for now.

With that and the methanol, I need to slightly re-tune the motec.

There has been some misinformation going around about exactly what the motec M2R is capable of. The motec website doesn't currently show the specs so we've put together a page specific for the M2R to clear the air and give the rotary community the ability to see what these ecu's are all about.
